if you are running street tires, just spin it a little to get the water and dirt off them.. you realy dont have to warm them up..

but.. just get slicks

its kinda.. diffirent between slics how much you have to warm them up, slics that my friend have just grip better the hotter they are, but my firends cobra is totaly diffirent, if you warm them to much they grip like ****

Everyone's basicly given you the advice you need. The only thing I would add is before you race spend a good amount of time just watching other people race. You'll be able to see right where to pull up to, to light up the tree and you can see where to pull off.
Please remember, if you are in the far lane no matter how far you are ahead of the other guy NEVER pass through his lane to get of the track!!

Remember to look at your tire pressure also... Maybe adjust it in the rears if you want.

how much air should he let out of the tire, Ive heard of people lowering the tire to around 15 to 20 psi, but I believe thats on Drag tires not street.

I would say mid 20s, but Im just guessing off what I read.

What I mostly meant by checking your air pressure was making sure your tires all have about the same air in them.

or when you go to the track, watch very closely on how people set up to get a great example, and make sure you tell the staging host that this is a first run for you, and dont come on the staging area utill you are cleared by the staging guy unless there isnt one.

One other thing that no one has mentioned, don't deep stag and light both lights. Pull up slow, light one light by slowly pulling forward. Wait for the other guy to light his first light, after he does, you can inch forward and stop when the second light comes on. When the tree starts, wait for the last yellow light to come on and then hit the gas. The time it takes you to see the light and have your brain tell your foot to move, the light will be green as your car moves. Watch a few races and see how it is done. Be sure to watch the guys staging the cars. DO NOT ROLL THROUGH THE WATER ON STREET TIRES. Do not have your ac on. Roll your windows all the way up. Make sure no leaks are coming from the car and your battery has it's hold down in place. Make sure you have a helmet with at least a snell 2000 rating. The tech guys are gonna want to look at the car, under the hood and your helmet. If you are in the far lane, do not cros over the other lane, go to the far exit or wait for the other guy to pass you and then follow him to the shack on the return road to pick up your time slip. Have fun and be safe!

Here, click to practice....this is the one you will use at the track.
