The auto transmission is generally stronger.

But it all depends on how it was treated.

There's no problems with the manuals. You'll get better gas mileage, you'll be able to have more fun driving it since you won't just be putting it in the D with the circle around it, and they are MUCH less complicated which means there's less to go wrong and cheaper to fix. Take a look at people that race their FBodies. Those than have auto's are getting them beefed up right away while those with manuals wait much longer because they can handle the power better.

get a manual! you'll love it! there is going to be more of a chance (if any) for issues with an auto. nothing to worry about tho

auto's are typically stronger, just most people assume they are not so they beef them up (there are also cheap kits for beefing them) manuals have more maintenance (gotta replace clutch pressure plate, clutch fluid throwout bearing) the difference in mileage is minimal anymore, and autos are faster in the quarter (no human can shift as fast as an auto, and every time you push teh clutch you are not putting power to the wheels)

i just like driving manuals better but u do have to worry about replacing clutches and crap like that but with autos there are other things that go wrong so it kinda goes either way i think, if u like shifting get a manual and if u dont wanna worry about shifting get an auto

Manual Transmission = Fun to drive

Auto Transmission = Faster after modification, easier to drive around town, but less fun.

All depends on what you want, both have their weak points as per quality, so its all preferance.

I will warn you now, if you ever put a power adder on your car with a manual, you WILL end up grenading 3rd gear. Everyone on FTV6 that boosted a manual ended up rebuilding so many of them that they eventually swapped in 4L60E autos. I know another guy who had no boost or nitrous and ended up fixing his 3 times cuz 3rd kept givng out. All in all, the T-5 for the v6 is $hitty. Just my .02

You could power shift an auto to make it somewhat fun. Manually shifting my auto cuts off about .2 seconds on my 1/8 mile.

what's power shifting an auto? and if you manual shift your stock auto youre going to blow it up.

i sometimes wish i had an auto. autos are so much easier to launch and all you need to do to get up to speed is just gun the throttle. also i find it a pain in the *** to pass people, with an auto it downshifts for you. still though, theres nothing like shifting your own gears.

yea manual shift the auto. as long as you dont over rev its not going to 'blow up'. i though it was called power shifting but i guess not.

Depends which u prefer and which is funner, A 5spd yes will be better gas mileage and in a stock vs stock race (auto vs 5spd) the 5spd would win unless the driver sucked or cant drive. I prefer my auto for somereason and I manual shift it on the highway to pass someone or when im slowing down about it. I hear manuals suck in city driving so all depends what u want.

It wont over rev, if you dont shift it and you hit a certain RPM it will shift it for you anyway to prevent damage.

Still, manually shifting an auto isnt smart anyway. A computer will shift faster than a human so you are not doing yourself any good in doing that. If you knocked off .2 in the 1/8 by doing this, it was probably luck.
