I didn't realize that the LS1 was the 'big leagues' these days..

If you wanna see how your big league LS1 does against an old-skool minor league LT1 let me know..

I was speaking relative to stock statistics. The stock LS1 is more powerful than the LT1. And correct me if I am wrong but I think with the same amount of effort put into each engine there is more potential in the LS1.

That may be true about the 3800 series II, but we are talking about racing here. I like the 3800 series too, but when it comes down to modifying & hooking up performance parts such has power adders which wears out the car quicker, V8s can take more punishment. I might keep the v6, I like it alot. But its all about taking everything I learned here & determine which engine will save me money in the long run, obtaining the 400HP goal. Hey Zheiling, i thought about selling my car, but thats not an easy task. Im still gonna finish working on the body than later decide what to do about the performance.

if you want a racing engine then go with a donovan or world products 1000 cubic inch engine, for racing there is no replacement for displacement (they can put out over 2000 hp for about the same price as a good crate engine)

why? Less power same money, and not nearly as tight tolerances (crate engines are very much mass produced and are not known for great tolerances)

Actually do a little research- minor bolt-ons yeah, LS1's will beat an LT1, but get into seriously modifying them and you will see they are pretty close...but my parts are a lot cheaper so if you wanna talk hp per $$ I can make more horse with the same budget since I can buy more-

The biggest reason the ls1 is so much better stock,is the ls1 heads kick *** and the lt1 heads dont flow very well, until someone that knows what theyre doin gets ahold of them, than they are very comparable..it seems like alot of people talk down on the lt1,but i agree with forcefedz about thembeing pretty equal once they are fully modded..

the na record between the 2 has the ls1 being only a tenth faster:

Naturally Aspirated Stock Suspended lt1 Record
9.341@143.4 (388 ci.lt1)
best 60 ft. 1.245 (footbrake)
best 1/8 5.89@115.6
best mph 145.3

Naturally Aspirated ls1 Record
99 Formula
9.24 @ 146 all motor KFP 408

-- Man, I only looked at the first page, haha. Didn't see the others. Oh well. I wrote this in response just to the posts I saw initially; sorry if it's repetitive. --

Hey Baby Muscle, it sounds like I've got a car almost identical to yours, except mine's a year younger. You're right, they're great, I love my car just as much... but definitely looking for a way to get more torque to the tires as cheap as possible.

I think what he meant when he said he could get it to run 400 hp for under 5k or 6k was that he could get the actual engine to test out at 400+ hp when hooked up to a dyno, but only to a dyno -- put out on the street, probably not. From what I understand, when you lined up to race the Spyder next to you and popped the clutch into first, your transmission wouldn't be able to handle all that twist, etc, and the rest of your car couldn't keep up with the beefed up engine.

I'm new here, and to cars, but from my understanding that would be like taking a varsity linebacker and just working on his arms and upper body for the sake of bulking him up to "street fight", but forgetting about his legs or ankles or lower body which give the connection to the ground and his take off on the line of scrimmage if you will. In our case with cars, at the line underneath the traffic light.

im on the same boat as you......give me 3-4 years and it will be done, since 2nd year of college i start my internship making close to 40 grand a year give or take 5 grand depending which firm i go to

how much moeny are yuo willing to put into your car....why wouldnt you just get a used SS or z28 for the moeny your talknig about putting into it. Right there you would be right up there with the 350's i would think.......then you jsut get the basic from there the whole exhaust and ****
