wheel offsets and whatnot questions...

didnt really know where to put this but, i have the chrome ZR1's with 275/40/17 tires all around. i beleive the rims are 9.5" wide if im not mistaken, however im not sure. i have about 1/8" of tread on the back tires cause the guy before me smoked em all off.lol. the front tires are farily good tho. im gonna get some new tires sometime soon prolly end of the year or somethign but i dont know yet. im going to the track this next weekend hopefully and i want to put the fronts on the back and just switch them so that i have some tread to hook up with on the backs, cause other wise i think im just gonna spin em forever. basically what im wondering is, when i go to the track will i be able to switch the front wheels and tires with the back, because i dont want to have the tires remounted. i tried to measure the distance from the hub to the wheel and they seem to be the same so i think i can switch them but im not sure, i know on third gen's they are different, but is it same for my car? any help would be great. thanks

you should be alright, but to measure offset the wheel needs to be off the car. Try it and see make sure and run the suspension through it's travel, and turn teh wheel lock to lock

ZR1 wheels

I have a set of 9.5x17 56mm offset on a 96. They fit just fine with 285/40 BFG KDWS. No Probs. Hope this helps.

Yes they will fit no problem- I have the SLP WS6 rims which are 17"x9.5 and they fit fine no matter what spot they are on. IMO- If I were you I would switch to a 245/45 up front and keep the 275's out back. I have been sayin this for a long time- 275's are too much IMO unless you are autocrossing all the time. Everytime it comes to cornering the rear-end always steps out first anyway. The best part though is the 245's don't wander nearly as much as the 275's did on the highway.

Try it and I will bet that you will be glad you did!! Not to mention people that rotate will often wear down all four tires then be stuck trying to find $600+ for a complete set of tires. This way you only have two tires to buy since the rears are the only ones that really wear. I haven't been able to figure out why though....hmmm...

the wider tires also tend to hydroplane easier
