Your Opinions

I have 2 questions to ask:

First, I am looking to get more power out of my 3.8L V6 (1996). I already have a CAI and custom exhaust (basically the easy things). Is there anything that I'm missing that can be done to boost HP/speed? I am willing to spend up to $500. However NOS is out of the picture, because of my parents. I was thinking maybe getting my cylinders bored out?? Looking for something that will make the most out of the money that I spend (maybe a bunch of cheaper things?)

Second, I was considering painting my hood all black and putting hood pins in it. My car is all white with the black accents (t-tops and behind them, mirrors, door handles, headlights, etc.) There is a link to a pic of my car in my sig.
There is nothing wrong with the paint on my hood, but I thought it may look cool painted black, to go along with the other black on my car. I think it would look sweet but I would like others opinions as well.
Also does anyone have a picture of a white Camaro with a black hood?

Thanks in advance for your comments and help.
Dustin

There many things you can do. Under 500 you could do...

PaceSetter Headers
Gear/LSD (unless you already have LSD)
Stall
etc....

Please...never ever say NOS its Nitrous never say NOS. As far as your hood please leave it white and no hood pins. Oh and I dislike the rims........

Yea I dont really like the rims myself but I think they are better then stock. I didnt buy them, my dad had them laying in the basement (they were off his S-10 he sold years ago) so I put them on to get some use out of them.

I was thinking headers, but is that something I could do myself (17 and dont have that much car knowledge)? Or would I have to have it pro. installed?

headers would probably be your best bet considering your budget. about $350 for headers and maybe $150 for install. Gears are also good if you find a good price for them. Install is real expensive tho. You have a nice ride, the rims arent that bad. Engine bay looks pretty cool. Only thing i kinda dislike is the NOS sticker, but hey if you like it, thats all that matters. I know how it is being 17 and wanting to mod the **** outta your car. Good luck man!

I'm with Guda, get rid of the NOS stickers. I have an NOS nitrous system and I refuse to put the stickers on my car. I do really like the 'CAMARO' fill ins on the rear, I want those for my car.

I wouldnt paint the hood, get rid of the RS badges and get Pacesetter headers. I have them on my car and love'em. You were talking about boring our your cylinders, but that is VERY expensive, way beyond $500. Go with headers or gears and you will be pleased.

Here is a link for a 'how to' Pacesetter header install:

Here is an exhaust clip of my car after getting my headers and Flowmaster exahaust. Just to give you an idea

Good luck on your project!

OK, well I don't mean to rain on your parade here, but how fast are you looking to go? If you want to be able to keep up with Z28's, then I would highly suggest saving your dough and just getting a Z.

I personally wouldn't invest a ton of money into the V6 to try and make it fast, it can be done, but it takes a lot of time money and talent- which from the sounds of, you are currently lacking two out of three. Not to mention, I think that go fast mods into a V6 aren't worth as much when you go to sell it again. In the long run you will get more money back into a Z than you would with a V6.

Yea I wish I could buy a Z28 but with the limited amount of money I make and the fact that I'm only 17 I would never be able to afford the insurance cost alone. I plan to drive this car till I'm out of college (another 5 years probably), so I dont plan on selling it anytime soon. After I get out, I plan to buy an old '69 or Iroc-Z Camaro or something fast.

Like my dad said "it's beating a dead horse trying to make a v6 auto fast". But I dont really want to be able to beat Z28's or other fast V8 cars. I just want to make mine fast for a V6 and to beable to knock out all the ricers and V6's around. My real goal is to kill a 1998 or so, Mitsu Eclipse Turbo. I havent had a chance in my class says it will kill my camaro and I want to prove them badly wrong.

How much hp to you get from adding headers and is it a noticable gain? I think that may be the ticket. Oh, how about an aluminum driveshaft, would that help any?

Thanks,
Dustin

sorry but the turbo DSM's can romp on mostly stock v8's with a few small modifications. beating one of those is a chore, pretty similar to what Force Fed said, lots of money, time and skills to make your own crap or install the high end parts like turbo kits or w/e, idk much abotu those 3.8s and their aftermarket but yea, its gonna be much more money.

if i was you, buy the appearance things you would like to get, especially a nice set of replica wheels, then you can bolt them up to an LT1/LS1 car when you get one. thats why i bought another LT1 car, cause i have a bunch of parst that i was able to swap off my wrecked camaro. and BTW a 69 camaro is gonna be a huge chunk outa yoru wallet and and Iroc will be slightly faster then your 3.8 maybe. a good condition 350 TPI might have a little on it but id say not a whole lot, those 3.8's are good motors. so yea look into a V8 4th gen or get lots of money.

Gee I didnt think that Mistu was that fast. A turbo charger helps that much? Maybe that is the way to go then? I dont know anything about them though.
I have been buying mostly apperance things up to this point, but have gotten mostly everything I've wanted (besides Lambo doors lol, and an SS hood).
Yea those 69 Camaros are big $$ I might have to wait a year or two after I get out of college to get enough money. I'm planning on becoming an mech. engineer so hopefully I wont have to wait to long haha.

they are fast because they have cast iron blocks and they are fairly light. so when you put on a boost controller, free flowing exhaust, intake, sometimes even a turbo, along with some small other add ons those cars are BAM! 12 second 1/4 mile cars with only 2 grand or so. i know a guy who had a little over 1 grand into his 91 Talon TSI AWD and that thing walked an LS1 in extremely hot weather( so turbo wasnt even doing all that well, is bottom line) if i was you keep the car till you get what you really want and just do maintenance or step it up and pay for insurance. you can do it if you really want to. just gotta work alot.hehe

Since you are all into weight reduction also, the Lambo doors are probably not a good idea. The kits that are made for that are very heavy. Really the only way you are going to beat a turbo eclipse or any other car is to be running your own turbo. I personally believe that is the only way to make a V6 fast by any means. If you ever consider a turbo, you might also want to re-think the headers. With a turbo system, a custom set is usually needed unless you plan to run a rear mounted system.
