Yeah I'm starting to think it's a fluke. I've broken axles, cv joints, more rear tranny mounts than I'd care to remember, but never the actual tranny. I guess I've gotten lucky. But then again I don't dump the clutch at 5000 rpm all the time either.

What do you mean "won't shift from 1st to 2nd on quick shifts."? Are you talking auto or stick? My tranny used to be a little stiff to shift, so I bought a shifter cable kit and that fixed it. The tranny in mine is the original 5 speed 1990 Passat 5 speed. As far as I can firgure it's got close to 200,000 km on it, and when it breaks (I'm being realistic, the car gets driven hard), I'll put another 1990 Passat tranny in it. I have one in my garage. Maybe the reason I'm not breaking as much is also the car. 1984 Rabbits with 4 racing seats instead of the originals is a hell of a lot lighter than the newer golfs and jettas. I've also heard of people blowing diffs in sunfires and cavaliers, but thats from spinning tires around corners. Wears out the spider gears, then bye-bye. Then again maybe I've made the weak spots to be the axles. If so I'll keep it that way. Axles are easy to replace on a rabbit.

O.k. thats like the original Rabbit shifter. My original tranny in the rabbit used to be hard to get into first when it got hot. All I did to fix it, well before the swap, was replaced the rods, and lubed the shifter ball. If you crawl under the car, you can see into the dust boot surrounding the shifter. It may just be coated in dirt. Use Release All to clean it then a good bike chain lube works really well to free it up. Also check your free play in the clutch cable. I broke a cable not that long ago, and there is a certain amount of free play required. I don't know if it's the same for your car or not, but the rabbit requires 1/4 inch free play in the pedal before the clutch starts to engage. Maybe your clutch is just sticking a fraction, making it harder to shift when you're trying to shift fast. Just a thought. If you have a Chilton or Haynes manual, they will tell you how much free play is required.

2nd gens "88-'94" (but my fav - '88-90) are of a different breed than the newer 3rd gens. Especially the small gropu of my friends that drive them as well. My car is not heavy, it is 2359 lbs stock, and it is not slow. We've had it since new and it has always been very reliable and easy and cheap to repair. I have had a few different powertrain setsup in it from the original 2.0 auto which brought me to 300,000km's without any problems but right now here is a picture of my motor in my "slow, ugly, heavy" car

[IMG][/IMG]

Unfortunately yes, a lot of kids do drive them especially newer 3rd gens and i've seem quite the share of some nastily done up ones

lol i was bored so i decided to read this thread and i was like wtf.... mark's 240sx.. lol anywyas my 240 is slow man, it's too heavy and 155hp 160lb/ft isnt good enough for a 240. But it's still decent though. But the 240 is a really fun and great handling car though Pm me sometime and i will take you for a spin.

Anyways, the cavalier is a great car when you want something new but don't have the money. Go to repo depot, about 80% of the cars there are cavaliers. you can easily go there and just buy one for probably $2000. There's way too many cavaliers.

You will NEVER, i repeat NEVER find a good working condition LS1 car for 8 grand, especially not a 2000 model year, unless someone is PURPOSELY trying to rip themselves off, do u understand me? NEVER.

A 2000 Cavalier, well even that is a far stretch, although its likely to happen within the next few years...its not just cavaliers, Neons, Civics, Sentra's, ALL ENTRY LEVEL VEHICLES.

You people need to get the grasp of this, if your buying an entry level vehicle, DO NOT expect to get a good resale value...it doesnt happen...

As for all domestics having poor resale value, thats a joke and a half...

Look on the auto trader...2002 Camaro SS 6-spd LS1 anniverary edition car going for $49,000....They didnt cost that much brand new...Anyways u get the ideas, it all depends on the line of cars and what-not.

If you think ur civics and neons and hyundai's and kia's are gonna be worth-a-damn anymore than other entry level cars give ur head a shake....there job is to get good gas mileage...i cant speak for the kias or hyundai's that blow blue smoke from the factory but i know the neon civic and cavalier do a good job at what there supposed to do, be cheap reliable a-b transportation...end-of-story...

Case closed.
