thank god the old ocupants of this appt where chinese , so it doesn't smell . just on the hallway when they cook . I have bought some room scents from CT and put them on the hallway arround my door , to shield me and my visitors from the smell .
in fact , it was one of my first criteria when looking for an appt . I would go in the building and sniff for curry. then get on the floor and sniff for curry ... then go in the appt and sniff .
I have seen this appt 5 times , and I've never smelt it anywhere . But on the first day I moved ... woooooow ... . Then of course as another consequence , there's cockroaches in the appt
but whatever , i'll go get some bug traps , and i'll get rid of them , as for smell , i think the air fresheners i put on the hallway are dooing a good job so far , hopefully my smelly neighbours will also get the point and maybe do something about it
however once the moving madness is over , I will call my MP as planed and shoot the sugestion that cooking curry on a daily basis should be as illegal as blasting beats at 2 AM at night .we were talking earlier about ignorance . THAT's ignorance , not giving a about punishing all the neighbours on your hallway .

Yeah, for some reason most of the curry that i smell seems to smell exactly the same. It's almost like they are all using the same receipe. I don't know about you guys but the curry that i cook at home is actually really good, but i only cook it once in a while. And it smells pretty good too. I really have no idea why the hell people would cook/eat curry everyday though....
But then again.... he's not being racist about anything... it's almost like.... would you want to smell mcdoanlds every single day in ur apt and in the hallways? Like the smell of burning oil and fast food everyday is gonna make you sick.

curry Chinese/Japanese people eat are like totally different than Indian curry, my mom makes those curry paste once a while and it tastes good and doesn't smell, most are already pre-made cubes you just add water & watever meat you like. Indian curry is like pure spice, my roomate used to cook it all the time and drove us nuts, we had to limit him cooking that stuff once every two weeks, we used like 12 boxes of Febreeze in 4 months.
you know what really ticks me off when comes to food? people making loud noises when eating, that drives me insane.

Well yeah, when i cook it i use a curry powder called Baba Fish curry powder and i add cinnamon sticks and star anise spices or w/e + chilli powder + salt + chopped red onions + potatoes + chicken. And of course you gotta mix the fish curry powder with a bit of water while cooking it to make it into a paste. But it never smells as strong as the indian one althouhg this is supposely "indian" curry. but it's real good though.

Why dont you go over to the neighbours and ask them to cook with their window opens and the stove fan on. It might help reduce the fumes going into the hall. They might not be doing that cuz no one has told them about the smell in the hall is upsetting the rest of the tennants. The open window idea should work even better with a a fan pointing towards tthe window as well.

actually, although you'd like to blame the people who are doing the cooking what you are dealing with is improper maintenance/operation of the building. The building hallways are supposed to be pressurized with a slightly positive pressure over that of the apartments and that is to keep any smells and odours in the individual units. It also serves to supply for an air exchange with fresh air provided to the hallways entering the apartments and then out the windows.
try talking to the building super/maintenace/owner about the issue, you could even launch a complaint against the building with whom ever oversees such issues for the city you're in.
btw.. I love a good hot curry/vindaloo but couldn't stand living with the smell of it day in, day out.
