you don't have to be rich to have a winter beater.. chill. the reason I have an old winter beater, is because it actually dropped my insurance a very good chunk. the car itself is only worth about $1000, at most.

lmao people and their winter beaters, it amounts to whether or not you know how to drive and whether or not you're a *****. I drive my Camaro every year rain, snow, hail, sleet, or sunny days... You learn how to brake accordingly and you're fine. A car is MEANT to be driven, so I drive it. The only damage I've encountered to my car (since I've owned it, atleast) is non-weather related. The only damage the car has ever encountered (aside from door dings and the ******* ***** that backed into my car because she had a lead foot when her trailblazer was in reverse) was the previous owner was a woman driver (so right there is the problem) but anyway she was driving and couldn't stop in time so she swerved to avoid hitting the car infront of her and hit a snow bank. Pushed the front bumper back and it cracked it in a few places and now it's got spiderweb cracks all over it. If she was smart, she would've just hit the **** car infront of her and pay the insurance so it'd get fixed. Anyway, yeah seriously I'm not shelling out to buy a winter beater and then pay more insurance when I'm already screwed as far as insurance goes, I can't afford paying insurance on two cars. Yeah, we have great cars, but if you don't drive them year round then what fun is that? My car is just as much if not more fun to drive in the winter than it is in the summer, in the winter I get to power slide around corners and fish tail and just all around have fun in the parking lots or where it's safe to... and then you drive like normal on the roads. Throw in a couple bags of salt, kitty litter, or sand and you got more weight over the rear wheels. Ya wash the car on a good basis to keep the salt off and tada you're gold.

Insurance on 2 cars is very likely to drop you insurance. Mine dropped $300 adding a winter beater. And you can't completely stop the salt from hurting the car, especially if you can't wash it that much. And what about sand, and ash, and gravel they lay down in places? Besides, just because you have a winter beater, doesn't make you a bad driver. However there are plenty of people out there that can't drive in winter conditions, and who wants them to ruin your vehicle. Yeah, the insurance fixes it to a degree, but if they total it, and you happen to like your car, well, your loss....And alot of people that have winter cars have very powerful Camaros, and the more powerful, the worse they are to drive in the snow.

why not drive it? usually the roads are clear, few places use salt (heck in parts of florida the salt in the air is worse than the salt on the road in the middle of winter anywhere else)

Smart-***? Don't start running my mouth? Kid, shut the hell up and step back for a second, I wasn't "running my mouth", nor was I being a 'smart-***'. I asked why you would drive your F-Body in the winter. Quit being such a whining turd.

That's an excellent sob story, and guess what, I was in your position too. So don't cry to me how you're not rich, because to think that I am is idiotic. Winter beaters are cheap, you just have to be car savvy so you don't buy some run-down piece of crap. You come off as an immature idiot, so that might be an issue, but I digress, and leave the conversation at that.

Well, Florida has significantly better weather than where I live, but around here, you're considered absolutely nuts to drive a sports car in the winter. We're also very meticulous about our cars and the condition they stay in... ie: showroom.

I cannot understand why anyone would drive a sports car in the winter. You slide into some chump, or he slides into you, and you've just damaged what could have been a minty car. They may do a good job repairing it, but it'll never really be the same. It makes more sense to buy a cheap winter beater than to winter drive your baby... except in climates where you really don't have much of a winter.

Horsepower isn't the problem, the low-end torque and the wide performance tread tires that make winter handling a *****.
