First Time Moving

Anyone have any HELPFULL, SERIOUS tips? I'm pretty sure I have everything down. Just trying to think if I'm forgetting about anything.

I help fellow soldiers move like weekley, one of the bonus's of being in the military we learn how to move reguarless if we want to or not.

Best tips I would say is rent a moving truck for it. Even if its not far the 30 bucks to rent one is well worth it to make it go a lot faster and smother. box pretty much everything up and label it like "upstairs" "downstais" "my room" etc etc. other than the big stuff prior to the move, it makes it a lot easier to keep things together and faster to move. Most of the time when we do it the owner has all the boxes in one room or in the garage. So the day of the move just get a few friends and load all the boxes up first it the back of the moving truck then whatever room you have left start moving the big things like your couches and tv's. Basicly so if you have a second load all it will be is big things insted of everything all mixed up. Then when you are unloading put all the boxes into one room (makes if faster and easy to unload) seperating them if you labeled them. Then move all the big stuff into your desired rooms so if you have your friends they will be there to help so after everything is in the house that needed to be moved. All the big stuff is in the right rooms then all you need to do is break down the boxes. I do it alot I sort of like doing it and its helping out my fellow soldiers since we have to move a lot, it gets old if you dont have the help.

Hope that helps not too confusing if you have anymore questions let me know.

basic tips
1.change of address form from post office to forward your mail
2. get electricity/internet/cable set up for new location
3. If needing a rental van or trailor, reserve at least 2 weeks ahead (especially if moving on the weekends)
4.if leaving a rental place, clean it up
5.get boxes from walmart or other business
6. pack, pack as you go...don't wait till the last minute

If you're married, keep in mind that this:
a) doesn't include her things.
b) doesn't include her.

i agree if you don't use it...get rid of it...but donate it to goodwill or American Red Cross because there are some needy people that would love your stuff

also, yes, label the boxes. I did and it helped alot. I was able to put the correct boxes in each room without opening them.. except I have 4 boxes labeled MISC and not sure what's in them!!!!!!
