Long Distance Car Rentals

Ok me and some of my friends are going to Halifax in June to watch the CFL game that there gonna play there. We could just fly there, but we wanna do the road trip thing too. Heres the catch, none of us have a big car or van thats comfortable for 4 people. We want to rent a nice luxury car for about 6 days and ohhh say ..... 4000 KM. Basically i'm wondering if you guys know any car rental places that dont charge by the KM because I dont feel like paying $1000 to rent a car for 6 days lol.

I worked at Hertz car rental and you can get the unlimited kms package.. for a small car, say, cavalier, focus or sunfire, it came to 98 bucks for fullcoverage accidental and unlimited kms and that meant you return with full tank of gas.(that was for a couple days rental)
With a luxury car or suv, you will be looking at more, but won't be that expensive.. All depends how many days you need.

It also depends how old you are.

They aren't going to give to teenagers... young 20's, maybe...

BTW - I road tripped to Hali last August w. 3 other buddies. 4 guys in a 3rd gen cavalier + luggage + booze. It was amazingly spacious.

21+ to rent from hertz... i think it was 25+ at discount.. and at discount, you have to have your own insurance..

Also to rent, you have to have a credit card...

^^ Wrong, Discount is one of the places that rents to 18+... and you have the choice of either using u'r own insurance on the rental (i fu have car insurance)...

Or you have to pay a daily penalty because you are under 25 (can't remember which it is now).

I've always had a good experience with Discount.

Budget is a no go under 25, same with Avis I believe.

Thrifty is another one that will let u rent 18+, but I have never done so... again u have to pay extra for the "special" insurance if u are under 25.

Manickx - I remember you had posted that you had gone on a road trip to hali and now I can't wait for this.... theres 100+ of us going down to watch the game, the majority of them decided to fly, but since I love driving so much I convinced 3 buds to drive down there. Since I got a Credit Card and i'm 25 its all good.... looks like its gonna be around $400 for 4 days and were getting a Town Car or Similar ..... i really wanted an STS but we'll see what they have.

Keep in mind that credit card's that offer coverage for a rental usually only cover economy to full size vehicles. All the other classes from premium and up to SUV's and Truck's are not covered. There are many other clauses as well so review the terms and condition's with your credit card company. I've used my MasterCard a few times with the Travel package for $29 a year for a few Impala's and Century's that I have rented and I did save quite a bit of money.

But yeah, Budget doesn't rent out to under 25 (most of the time anyways) Thrifty and Avis are for over 23, Hertz I have been happy with their service. Hertz and Discount offer unlimited mileage packages with their cars however if you speak to a supervisor they will usually add that to the agreement at no extra charge. As well if you tell them you are leaving the province they might add an additional service charge, although most companies won't do that. Discount car is pretty good as well for the most part, have picked up a few good deals from them. But yeah keep in mind get the smallest vehicle that you will be comfortable with. Sure a Crown Vic or an SUV is nice however add to the cost of the fuel and it'll add up, TO to Hali is approximately 1800k's each way as I did this trip last summer not including the amount of km's you'll spend driving around the city and everywhere else. Any other question's just ask me. I don't work for a rental company I have just rented many times from various companies
