^^^ I know I wish I was in your shoes when it comes to getting parts and such. I still see your 2G in my dreams LOL

haha well it was turning into a really nicely balanced car. Everything was done down to the alumiunum driveshaft and cromo axles.

But it was a sequence of small stupid crap that kept preventing it from going as fast as it could. I sold it to some dude in BC, young guy, thrilled thinks he is Paul Walker zapping everyone. 8 yrs I had that thing.

Kevin, I lot of people think that the build was free I put in assloads of my own money and labour. It helped but free? :lol_hitti

Oh I know it wasn't free lol, but every little bit saved helps. A few $ saved here and there really add up at the end of the day. Definalty one of my favourite 2Gs of all time. You'd have to see it in person to FULLY appreciate that car. I'm looking forward to seeing that Skyline in person too :smilie_da

I agree, I give credit to people who do there own work, but again, some people dont have the time, and room to do there own work, so having a shop do it is sometimes the only way, and a little less stressful knowing your car is in the hands of a professional, I do all my own work, however I have lots of room in my driveway, dont work lots a hours, so I can afford to do it myself, but sometimes some things are better left to a professional,

Z-Tuned 12-02-2006 01:59 PM

I'm fairly capable with a wrench byt When I have work to be done I always ask myself three things before starting:

1.) Can I do it well enough myself so that it doesn't break, melt, explode, crack, tear or generally look like a backyard-basher job.:loser:

2.) Can I make enough money working in that same time frame to not only pay for the job but have cash left over?:smilie_da

3.) I'm kinda high-strung and busy with work so I assess whether or not this is really going to piss me off, raise blood presssure and lose sleep?:hitwithro

Otherwise, I am all over it billet oil caps, shift knobs, altezza installs I do it all bro.

TOILETDUCK 12-02-2006 03:30 PM

I agree with z tuned, If I think im gonna really hurt myself, well ill leave it to the experts, ie. dont have a garage, so cant weld or anything, so ill have a friend of mine tig it at his shop, same thing goes for machine work, If I think Im over my head well then ill leave it up to someone else, Ive been lucky with my car, Ive done a large amount in my driveway with some simple hand tools.

And last I checked, I haven't touched my car in almost 2 years, so it's hardly part of the "build" time. 12 second? Right...If I wanted to make my car for drag I'd make it for drag and slap a TH on there and run 9's with just 600whp.

You have lots to learn, boy.

9 second mustangs are not as easy to build as you seem to think. An 11-12 second mustang is pretty straightforward, but single digits is a whole nother ball game...

9 second mk3 supra eh? Good luck. It is also not as easy to bring your car down the track as you think, even with an auto. Maybe if you actually went to a drag track and raced you would get it. I am not trying to bash you or anything, it is just more difficult than it appears to be.

Only one person in the past 2 years has pulled off a mid-low 10 second et in a mk3 supra with 520ish whp and an auto (also a full slick so not technically a street car). If it was easy many more people would have done it by now.

I am sure they could, but as already stated I am not cheaping out on parts for this build. I want GOOD street tires so I am not spinning through all gears.

I would like a set of DR's or possibly a full slick if this new job pulls off and I can afford to fix the car after every launch. I am adding in upgraded traction bars and solid aluminum rear subframe bushings as well as a few other goodies to help in the traction department.

I agree. I have been looking at places to buy/rent, cost of living adds up very quickly.

5PointOHNO 12-03-2006 01:43 AM

^The cost of living is one thing, MY grocery bill is another thing... Before I used to eat insane amounts of food, which was expensive. Now I'm eating moderate amounts of HEALTHY food, which is just plain ludicrously priced.

looks like we agree on something adam, and yes, it really wouldnt be a fair drag race between the two of us, not being cocky, however my car handles like a shopping cart, so youll probaly do just a bit better on the twisties. So you dont think marc will go nines?? lol. me neither, again a 12 second car is relatively easy, 11's well 5pt has proved that with some bolt ons and a few things you can have an 11 second street car, but 9's or 10's arent that easy, everything needs to be beefed up, again, I dont think marc understands this cuz he doesnt have any real drag racing eperience.

Todd, 10's in a mustang are still easy. Solid 9's aren't necesarilly "easy", but compared to getting a supra into the 11's even, yes it is easy. Of course I know everything has to be beefed up. Fox bodies are known for breaking themselves into pieces from any type of hard launches with lots of power.

Point being though, if I wanted to go fast in the 1/4 mile only and had a mustang with the budget I've had in the past with the supra, I'd have 10 second stang if not damn close to a 9...

Even you know that they're cheap and easy to make go fast in the 1/4
And...It's funny actually, because every time for the past 2+ years, you as well as others at PI when I've stopped in the odd time has said the same thing...."oh...yea it's in the shop. It'll be out in 2 weeks"

Groung beef is high in fat, boneless skinless chicken is expensive, and when you go through 4KG's per week your getting into rediculous territory. And I cannot live on tuna alone. Lean steak is a favourite, but also expensive. Especially if you don't always want to eat at home.

I think you should become an expert on making your supra run before you start giving out advice like that.

No, you'd have a hack-job, barely-running, oil-leaking, smoke-billowing 14 second Mustang that was mint until you got your dumbass hands on it.

Hahahaha so true.

I think you came by my store like once. I never once said it was in the shop. It took a little longer than I expected but, its an experience. I had some issus with fitting the turbo and a 5" downpipe, so I had to redo the hot side, But hey its down now, and I am proud of it. Again, whats the fastest pass you have down at the track?????????? you just dont know, Typical internet racer, sees it on the net and thinks he can do it too. Wow, so basically marc your telling me that you have spent a lot of money on your supra hahahaha where is it? You can build an 11 sec car for around 10 including the cost of car, with a stock motor and spray and supporting mods, but once you reach that wall, its not easy, a healthy small block ford will set you back around 10 grand, plus tranny, drivetrain, you could probaly do it for at lot less, but it would not be reliable or pretty, my old set up went low 11's for 2 years and drove it every day, never broke a part on it. How much have you spent on your car anyway??? I wanna hear how much you think it will cost to go 9's??

NOTORIOUS VR 12-04-2006 11:51 AM
