guys I know how you feel, but you also have to take it into their perspective..

I know I'm gonna be flamed for this, as I am in a police course (going for either toronto or peel).. but I do also have a slightly tuned car (exhaust, suspension, etc) .. I can tell you what the police is doing is wrong, however, they do have a reason for it. Their reasons come from illegal street racing, and people getting hurt from their activities. They are actually here to save lives. Some statistics (not all) show that modified cars are more likely to race and/or speed. (I'm not saying that I don't speed, I'm sure everyone does.. even police officers who are off duty.)

Now, because we fit the profile of street racers with our huge exhausts, lowered suspension, etc, we are more likely to be bothered by the police. This is wrong and I think we should protest it. .. and no I'm not here to arrest you guys .. oh and the worst thing you can possibly do is to get hostile or argue with a police officer.. they are more likely to harrass you further and give you more tickets for things you've done to your car. My advice is to be polite.. I know when a cop pulled me over, I was polite and curtious to the officer, and he let me off right away for my illegal tints ..

oh and don't say police officers are underworked till you experienced it yourself. some officers are power trips and to be honest shouldn't be working at all.. some are legitimate, and great people. On top of traffic, police also has to do a great deal of domestic work, such as settling domestic disputes, etc.. they are actually quite busy ..

Also .. if the police officer, asks to search either you or your car, you have the right to say NO .. (of course only in canada, the states is different) .. they MUST have a warrent to search your car without your consent .. even if you say yes.. and they are very close to finding your weed stash, you can still say no or stop.. and they must obey you... if they don't any evidence they gather will be thrown out

now.. flame away boys

I totally agree with Bigwilly, but I think that sometimes getting pulled over so much can be quite annoying as usually once you get pulled over, it takes about 5 to 10 minutes before they let you go.

Okay... from a cop's perspective...

If they see a modified car driving around, they are going to give the person ... why?

Think about it.

Cops seeing modified cars, is along the lines of cops seeing people walking around with guns, its just a matter of time before they do something with it... why do you buy a gun if you dont plan on using it?
why do you modify your car if you dont plan on using it?

same .

IMO, "street racing" has a bad rep, from all the ing tools who race at lights in downtown toronto... and die... well its good that they die, and i actually encourage the idiots to go out and die too, its called DARWINISM ers.

the IMPROMTU street racing is what kills people... in broad daylight... with two ing teenagers racing for pink slips y0 (PINK SLIPS = INSURANCE TARDS GET A ING CLUE)

why do you think when the REAL races get busted, they usually just tell us to go home... and hand out VEHICLE related tickets like improper exhaust.. if they want they can give bigger if they catch people racing.. but 9/10 times its just to break it up... they know we are doing something illegal ,but they also know that we are being as safe as we can about it.

unless the cop is REALLY out to get you, you will usually just get told to go home.

cops only REALLY get pissed when u put others at danger.. if you are doing like.. 90 in a 60 zone in bum nowhere... chances are you wont get a ticket... if you are doing 80 in a 50 in downtown toronto.. u are getting raped cuz you are endangering other people.

be smart and you will be fine... race during the day, do burnouts and dumb stupid ... and you will get in trouble ... and nobody will take pity on you.

most ing racers understand where the cops are coming from... and support what they are TRYING to do.. the only thing we dont like is being hassled senselessly...

as i said before... most of the time when there are ORGANIZED races... and its clear that precautions are being taken to keep people safe (no people on the road, people racing with lights ON at all times etc..) they just tell people to go home and give the cars a quick once-over on the way out.

if they really wanted to bust us for RACING... dont you think they would WAIT a bit and film us and ... no.. they just break it up.

DONT BE STUPID
AND YOU WONT GET IN

DONT BE RICE
AND YOU WONT GET IN (COPS HATE RICE AS MUCH AS WE DO)

DONT SPEED IN RESIDENTIAL / HIGH TRAFFIC AREAS
AND YOU WONT GET IN

ing CALM down... drive slower... take off that huge ing park bench... and you will be fine.

jesus christ.

Couple things. One. Cory, the cop gave you a warning for no helmet on a bicycle? it's only mandatory to wear a helmet if you are under the age of sixteen.
Two. The other night, I was on my way to the gym, and I got on the 401 westbound at Avenue rd. 3 cruisers parked on the ramp. On my way back from the gym, I passed Avenue rd on the 401 eastbound on my way to the Yonge exit, and there were at least six cruisers parked on the on ramp there. Gimme a ing break. 9 ing cruisers! How about ing yourselves around the neighbourhoods and try to catch some real criminals?! . How can they cover an entire division if they are all hanging out in one spot?!

Three. Niterider, I don't think that just because we modify our cars means that cops should hassle us based on your theory of sooner or later we're going to do something illegal with our cars. That's wrong on so many levels. Not the least of which is how do they prove I am going to do something illegal with it? Maybe I obey all traffic laws and only have a modified car for track days but I can't afford to have a second car for street use. Maybe I just like modifying cars. Maybe I just like the look of a modified car.

This all goes back to the same sad state of affairs that the government should not be able to say I can't modify my car. That's the bs. It's my car. I consider it an extension of my personality and I have the right to individualize my property if I want to.
If the government has it's way, we'll all be driving bone stock nameless, faceless, econobox cars with no guts, that are all the same colour-grey, and all run on 87octane or batteries even! Because that's all we'll be able to afford in ten years, and that's all that will be available anyway. Don't be different. Don't stand out in the sea of minivans and econoboxes inching along the 401 in rush hour. Don't look like you're having fun. And don't try to hide from our prying eyes behind tinted windows. Because we need to know everything about you.

At the end of the day, it is still wrong to profile people because of what we drive. And then harass us for wanting to be different and stand out. The Police hide behind "Preventative Policing". We might commit a crime does not give them the right to harass.

Rant over..but in my mind, the rant will go on for ever.

If that were true, they wouldn't have been letting cars through. We both know why they were there.

you can't really speculate what happened unless if you saw exactly what happened right? unless if you exited there, walked up to them and asked what was going on :supergay:

^^ Dude, that is completely ridiculous.

the gangsters with guns is totally different than a modified car. Maybe if the guy driving had a gun in his hand, then it might be the same....

last time i checked, there was no licence needed to modify your car (like a licence to own a gun)

if you're ever going through the london/woodstock area, watch out for a white SVT Focus. it's an OPP car.

The cops do have a point. Uneducated, but still do. Obviously over the years street racing has gotten worse do to 2F2F and such. So the cops automaticaly think..."Ok hes got a loud exhaust, tints, PopCan Exhaust tip, and a "parkbench" bolted on his car. He must have done stuff under the hood." Thats most likely how they think. Now wouldnt u be stopping every car that fits that Description? Yes they are wrongly accusing people of that but still. I see their point, sure most of us do only use the cars speed for racing in secluded area's and ya we all speed. But when people do race we take precautions"MOST OF US" The rest give every one a bad rap. If the cops actually set up a sting to watch us race and not bother, just to see what actually goes on. and to report the precautions taen then they might eventually havce a change of heart in this ed up system of ours. But until then. Keep resisting to pop ur hood and letting them find your weed stash because the fight will go on. P.S. i say the government should hand out Racing permets for scluded areas for people to race in for say $100 a night in designated areas..? wouldnt u agree?

What we need is a good autocross area. Grand Bend Motorplex has a run what you brung night most fridays. cost approx $25 for appro 8 to 10 1/4 miles with slips and a pit area. Camping area extra.
