Rogers Cable to limit bandwidth
Rogers Cable in Toronto is imposing a “combined upload and download bandwidth limit of 60 GB per month.” This goes into effect on March 17, 2005. One person that I spoke to was told by Rogers that 60 GB of bandwidth is what the average person might use in a year. Another person I spoke to had his service cut off for a day last fall. He was told that he was in the 1% of users that was abusing the service by downloading excessively. So what does this mean if you’re a bandwidth hog? It means that you’ll only be able to steal download about 60 Hollywood films each month or 15,000 songs. Can you really watch 60 films or listen to 15,000 songs in a month? I think Rogers and the other ISPs are probably doing some people a favour by limiting their downloading addiction. Downloading that much data becomes a full-time job of burning CDs, DVDs, printing cover art, archiving files and making room on your crippled hard drive for the next 60 GB of files. Where do people find the time to actually watch all of those movies and listen to all of that music? What kind of life can you possibly have if you spend all of your spare time in front of the computer or the television? |
Match 17th to 31st is 15 days.... 60 gb in 15 days... I might go over!

Combine all the I download in class on the laptop and I easily use over 60gb's/month. Good ol' college broadband.

considering many people signed up for UMLIMITED rogers plans, seems kinda sketchy to put a cap on it. but.. also check out IHATEROGERS |

when i first got "highspeed" i had the cable choice but i went sympatico knowing they had a 10gb month limit now thats 120gb/year for neone who can do math here so trust me sympatico is worth it, not to mention the 150% upgrade in download and 100% upgrade in upload i got for free :D no complaints here |
i agree, 60 gigs is plenty per month, and even VoIP doesnt require that much BW.
I would expect more companies to follow suit with the capping. |

Sympatico cant keep up. Been there and done that. Rogers has a pretty sweet monopoly :knock_tee

oh, and i just checked out that 'i hate rogers' site and the suggested alternatives by the author is a joke as well ...

Our alternatives on these pages refer to DSL as "High Speed (Phone Line)"." wow, "40 times faster than a 28.8 modem"? that's a whopping 112 kb/s bandwith as opposed to getting 500-600 which i have with roger's extreme ... i figure the selection of providers can go either way, i know lots of people who hate rogers because of their previous connectivity problems, but i've had nothing but good experiences with them, and swear by their high speed service |
60GBs a monthin is way to little if u dl movies. In jan i upload/downloaded almost 4X more than the new limit. Im thinking about switching to dsl.

im connected 24/7 with router and my download speeds off an average server are around 400kbps and upload at somethign like 100 kbps but meh to each his own :sly: |
I think if you go over 60 GB a month and are complaining about it... you should have to pay for more...
Other then that... get a life and go outside for a few days. ... some people don't even have 60 GB hard drives.... The average is what... 80-120 GB for HD's? so how can u ing DL 60 GB per month in movies?!? That's such bullshit. |
Are there any programs out there that measure your total DL or UP volume over any given period of time?
I am interested in figuring out what my weekly/monthly usage is. |
