J-bodies are very nice daily drivers, very cheap, reliable, cheap parts, and very nice sleepers (just no fast ones around here to talk about yet). Why cant people accept that? Because its wrong wheel drive? So are hondas, celicas, tiburons etc...

Engine light comes on more often than on a VW!
Base model civic.
Base model cav/sunfire.
Go get both side by side (equal years) and compare the build quality. If you think the cav/sunfire is even half as well built as the civic, then you should never be allowed to work on a car. Have a nice day.

Your paying 13k for a j-body new.. You get what you pay for. Don't compare a car that costs alote more. I went and looked in the scrap yard at odometer readings on late model j-bodys alote of them had over 250,000k. They do last if maintained they are a fraction of the cost of a civic and better looking too. They werent made for build quality or too win awards. They were made for a cheap car and sold very well. Who are you to say the warning light comes on often? You don't own one these guys do. The ecotech is a great motor.

If you do the basic matience on j-bodies they wont "break down". Hell that goes with ALL cars. If you neglect to change the oil in your supra you cant expect things to go good.
Maybe you seen the engine light in a j-body you drove that was neglected and never fixed up or had a tune up.
My cav hasnt given me any problems at all, even when I was 3 months overdue on an oil change. I had a problem with the stock ac delco battery, but it was over a year old, cant expect batteries to last forever.

Engine light has constantly come off and on for various reasons on the sunfire that has been in my household for the past 6 1/2 years, bought new. All regular maintenance done, and only 86000kms.

Engine related:
- Emissions Evap issue
- low voltage o2 sensor
- Leaking valve cover gasket, right into spark plug galleys and onto exh. manifold
- Constant missfire at idle
- Bad IAT sensor
- Burns a small noticable ammount of coolant
Non-Engine related:
- Worn suspension bushings in front control arms
- Worn ball joints
- Worn cv joints
- Blown shocks
- Chattering clutch assembly
- Noisey transmission gears
- Bad front wheel bearings
- Interior panels that rattle and vibrate with accel/deaccel
- Exesscive ammount of front brake pads changes
- Rear drums/shoes neeed to be changed twice
- CD player skips on bumpy roads
I am sure there is more, thats it for now.
86000kms.
NO PROPPER JACK POINTS!! The side rails just fold over when lifted from, the frame rails, forget about it. Rear subframe is adequate for the rear but then the design is not level so its not very sturdy to rest a stand under there. The front has two flat jack points but if you put the jack there to lift them, you have no spot to put the jack stands!!

Ive been living in peterborough for almost 2 months now, yes the jbody population is horrible. If walmart sold bodykits id say thats where they were gettin all their work done. Whats the deal with all cavy/sunfire owners needing 2 fart cans?? Does 2 make the car faster than just one? dual tips are for trucks and badass rwd/4wd cars. It seems to be the biggest performance upgrade on these crazy fast walmart ricers it a short ram intake, which I might add looks retarded cause the TB sits vertically.
Anywho, if I think of more to rant about, I'll add more later.
Oh, and you speak of 250k km on these crazy high mileage jbodies, Four of my buddies including myself have hondas with over 400k on them and still running strong. the rest of the ones I know about still have high miles on the car but have had a jdm motor dropped in so they dont count anymore.

You are ****ing kidding me.
the 2.0s and 2.2 might as well come with a headgasket dispenser. I'm a mechanic, and in the past 6 or so months, I've done AT LEAST 10 SEPERATE headgaskets on these shitboxes.
Or how about when out of nowhere the front brakes stop working. The slightest touch of the rear brakes puts you into a skid.
J-Bodies are, and always have been, .
I am a domestic guy, but I would buy ANY honda over a J-Body.
