Yes it can be put on a pay as you go plan, but it depends on the provider. Some Providers *Cough* Bell *Cough* put you through the wringer when you try to do it though, as they want you to buy Brand new "Bell" Hardware instead of using something that you already own, and works perfectly.

As long as its a GSM phone, aka to work with Rogers or Fido, then you can do whatever you want. If its for Bell or Telus (CDMA) then I dont think you can do that since they designate phones for different services
