I'll be waiting for Apple to release Leopard (Mac OS 10.5) later this year. Vista, for anyone who's used MacOS, has nothing new to offer.

crazyae 01-31-2007 09:35 PM

I think i am going to wait it out before i upgrade to vista. I haven;t upgraded my computer in two years so it will need some goodies soon. Whats all the hype about vista anyways? What new features does it have to offer compared to XP?

Ontittech 02-02-2007 08:23 AM

I have been using Vista RC2 Beta as part of the MS Test group for almost 4 months. I am torn on what i think of the OS. The Areo Glass looks terrific, a lot like a mac, but then again what's new?
I find even on my testbed server, which is a Quad Intel Xeon 2.4Ghz, with 2GB of RAM and a 200GB Raid array, it runs a lot slower than XP with the same Setup. and before anyone starts, yes I know Vista Cannot take full advantage of all 4 Processors, but even when it is running Dual 2.4Ghz Processors, it should be decently fast.

I think I may upgrade my home PC once the morning after bugs get worked out (the whole flood of complaints after day 1 of the release). but I will not be touching Vista for our work PC's until At least Service Pack 1 is released, Even then I will prefer to stick with XP so I have a single platform for users to work with, instead of having to troubleshoot a million different OS's.

I heard with vista microsoft can go into your computer and see what files have be downloaded ilegally and delete them, and besides if your computer isint new like 2 years old and under are not recommended to get it as you guys were saying its a bit slow. so i wont be getting it why what for xp work fine and not as much bull but hey we all got are point of view

2TONE_93GT 02-03-2007 11:31 AM

For now i will stick with XP. Not that vista wont work for me, but just because i dont wanna mess with what isnt broke.

My desktop has been chugging along for sometime and frankly and runs smooth. . . :veryhappy

Phillin, that is only for Illegally installed Microsoft Products. It would be Illegal for Microsoft to check for any software other than there own, and even then there are some questions about the true legality of doing it with there own software.

ANY real computer enthusiast will run LINUX and wont even consider Windows. Don't take it from me , try it. I would recommend SUSE , but if you are a big PC game nut don't even bother useing linux as they rarely port anything mainstream to it. But it is 99% more solid then windows ever will be and if a bug does come out the fixes are out there very fast because its a large community of penguins who work all over the place ;)

ya, i agree. but windows is too mainstream and compatible with like all the stuff people are into.

i just got vista business edition from my school. debating on whether to install it or not. as for security, my friend says its like zone alarm without the "remember" feature setting... dont know if hes bsing or not

My god you talk a lot of bullshit..

So anyone who doesn't run a flavor of linux isn't a computer enthusiast?

Linux sucks buddy. Even people in the Linux community agree it's not a viable desktop replacement (read: a windows replacement).

Linus is something you run if you want to tinker and have your windows designed hardware to not work as it was intended.

I've been there and done that... I've tried making it (SUSE specifically) replace windows... it's not gonna happen, even though I agree, SUSE is the best linux distro I've used. I had that on my desktop for 4 months, and on my laptop for 2. The only positive thing I can say about it is that it's kinda cool at first.

After that, you get frustrated with the lack of hardware and software support.

There is a reason why Microsoft Windows is the market leader.

The only people who think Linux for Home use is the only way to go, are lonely Nerds who never get laid.

This is coming from an MCSE Certified as well as Linux+ Certified Network Admin, Me. Linux is a Great idea if you are looking to host a web page for your business with Apache, or as a DNS or RADIUS Server, but other than that, there is absolutely no reason why you would want to run Linux. At Work or at home, in any flavor.

The Whole craze of "Linux is the only way to go at home" died about 6 years ago.

NOTORIOUS VR 02-06-2007 07:13 AM

Exactly my point. Not only that.. if you really want something close to linux yet w/o the fuss and where everything works hardware wise, get a mac and run OSX.

Linux is a powerful OS I'll admit, but anything you can do under linux, you can do under windows. And for home use espeicially, Windows kills Linux.

And done come w/ the ohhh, you get less viruses, and spyware under linux... Listen I haven't had a virus and or spyware in over 4 years on my windows PC. It's all in the user. On top of that Dual Booting or running emulators like virtual PC to run windows programs when u need it is gay.
