Car wheels

Okay here is my question and reasoning. Why does a car with an LSD when you spin one tire(car is off spun by hand) does the tire on the opposing side spin the opposite direction. Noticed this on the two cars in our family that have an LSD did this when the tires where in the air while I was rotating tires or chaning oil. If someone knows exta reason please enlighten me. I figure it has something to do with the gears and the LSD and how it all works but was wondering why they still didnt spin the same direction since it does when the motor pushes the tires.

Its not just LS that does that, could be all. Mine does it, and I dont have a LSD.

youre backwards. cars with an open differential will spin both ways. cars with a limited slip spin the same way.

you really have to know how a differential works to know why. i cant really explain it in words.

it would matter if the rear end broke or somethin and he was trying to fix it... i sound like an *** right now im sorry but rear ends are so complicated. i know from experience with them that if you dont just rip into one you wont get what anyone is talking about

most burbs had an open carrier. The reason for teh way they spin has to do with teh clutches and what not

yea u should look at the howstuffworks.com website they have alot of good stuff on there, i didnt really look for the rear end question but its one of those things u kinda have to see taken apart to really understand, its hard for me to explain stuff like that
