I'm not going to be some DSM **** here...but Civic is not in the same category as Talons/Eclipse.
I'd suggest test driving a subby/ DSM/ 4th Gen Lude.

In terms of autocrossing there are many different platforms competeing as it takes tremedous skill and testing to know what works for that car. I beleive that is one sport where all platforms can shine.
