This is gettin off the topic now, but in Honda's defense...
I did ride in a VTEC Prelude and you can feel the power(?) when the cams switch over. Of course its nothing like power surge in a V8, and it happens at around 6500 rpm but it does do what it says.
So yes, the technology can be used to make hp, but you still can't make up for the lose of torque with hardly any cubes...
