I know that sounds odd, but you've got less power pushing more weight, hence worse gas mileage. The 3.8 is probally more reliable, but its not cheaper to fix. With the LS1 / LT1, you have the option of suping it up in the future, or having an all around faster car, but your going to have a higher insurance rate.

If you really want the details, you can send me a msg and I can tell you all the bad and good **** about a 3.8, and im sure all these guys can make a list of the good and bad of a ls1 / lt1 (optispark cough cough)
Whoa...what? Less miles in the 3.8 then a LT1? Are you serious or am I reading wrong? Also the 3.8 is cheap to fix the lt1 in the end the lt1 is as bad...um opti spark? They have leaks and stuff to. LT1s are gas guzzlers ask any owner they will tell u that but they dont complain because they love the power. LS1 is all around decent in everyway as they say its the engine touched by god. You are right on insurance rates but quite a few somehow dont see that much of an increase from going from a 6 to an 8.

For a DD the V6 is by far a better buy but if u want power and want to make even more power then get a V8. Or if ur like me and want to make a fast badass V6 then do that.

I know more than 1 v6 owner getting well over 20 mpg (heck I get 21 with my sc gp that weighs almost as much as the 4th gen) the lt1 is regaurded as an engineering disaster (hence it's short life mostly due to high warranty claims)

As far as gas mileage my LT get in the range of 19 to 22 mpg depending on how I drive it.As far as prices to fix the most common problem is the opti,it flat sucks *****.Around 450.00 to 500.00 for them,3 times since I have had the car.The only other problems I have had are blown heas gaskets.Had to have that done twice already,to the tune of nearlly 1500.00 each time.

Working on it is a *****,because there is ZERO room to work.Just changing plugs and wires unless you a have a lift is a friggin nightmare.Did that one time and it took almost 3 hours.

With all that said I still love pressing the pedal and letting the ponies run.

Slvrv6, im running a heavily modded v6 and getting maybe 12mpg. An equally modded v8 will get better mileage. As I said, I think the 3800 is a better motor, but it all comes down to what your looking for.

I have had heavily modded v8's and not gotten near that good (fuel injected and carbed) heck the caprice we just sold stock only got 12 mpg.

Well no shiznit with a cam/4.10s are u gona have bad mileage. Still better then a LT1 with mods and dont say im wrong because im correct ask anyone with a lt1. As far as this topic hes asking stock for stock not camed/gears/spray cars.

If you want a DD get a 3.8. Can still be expensive to fix but not as much as an LT1. You will get better mileage with a 3.8 over an LT1, I have a buddy with an Lt1 and his mileage sucks compared to mine.

Are the 3.8 camaros a pain to work on as far as space under the hood? I ve heard more than once now about the lt1 and the ls1 being a ***** due to lack of space.

a 6 is going to have more room around it to work than an 8...so yea the 3.8's are easier to work on than the lt1 or ls1 imo

They are easier to work on, but your going to run into the same problems you run into for the v8, because the motor is tucked up in there so far.

the 4th gen engine bay was designed by someone with half a brain, a 4 cylinder would be a pain to work on in there
