Lucas treatment????

Lucas treatment????
I have a 92' Accord with 240K miles. The engine seems to be in OK shape though it does have a burning oil smell often. My mechanic said it is leaking oil from a lot of places including the rear main seal. The car holds oil pretty well though. The Transmission shifts really hard but seems to be OK for now. I bought the car at an auction almost a year ago and my mechanic said then it was a piece of junk and to sell it but it has lasted this long and I want to keep it running. Are these Lucas treatments a good idea for this car. I dont know too much about cars but I know they can be really sensitive sometimes. I usually go with the old saying if it is not broke dont fix it. Is there any chance these treatments could have an ill effect on the car or maybe even make things worse or speed up the sure breakdown of my car. Even though it says they will prolong the life of the car and help it out. Any suggestions

I don't think you'll have any "ill effects" on your car. I use it in alot of my vehicles, in alot of different areas. Engine oil...standard trans...differential etc... I have a 67' Chevrolet pickup with a lifter noise (valvetrain in engine) and did an oil change with Lucas...no more noise and oil pressure is back up where it belongs.
Also a good concept..."ain't broke, don't fix it". And with 240k and no problems...you're doing something right.

Lucas is just another snake oil treatment, in other words just junk.
If you car is leaking oil then it will need to have the seal/gasket replaced. If it is not to bad then use a little thicker oil like a 10w30 or even a 10w30 high milage oil.
