can i drive with 3 lugnuts only?

i have a 02 honda civic and one of the things that stick out so u cant put the lugnut on broke off (so u cant put the lugnut on) and i was wondering, till i can get that fixed is it okay?And i dont understand why one guy chrges 100 to fix it cause he says it needs to be compressed on and another guy charged me 40, whats the differrence?

i'd fix it as soon as u can. it's not safe to drive like that plus u'll damage the rim. compressed on?? what's he talking about?? the lugnut needs to be tightened yeah, but he over charged u! tell him to tighten his own lugnuts!!

yea you can drive with 3 lugnuts but make sure that they are very tight and not on there way to break because you cant drive with 2 on trust me i been through it with my honda and the things that hold the lugnuts are called wheel studs

u can drive w/ only 3 lug nuts...i did until my bro in law noticed and told me. but i was driving for awhile w/ only 3 lugnuts, like maybe for a year.and it was a 92 civic...

Studs are pressed into the hub, so they have to be pressed out. If you have the space behind the stud, you can do this with a C-clamp and a few sockets. Otherwise you need a special tool.

You can use a lug nut and washers to pull the new stud into place, but you have to toss the lug nut after you've done that because you've stretched the threads.

It's never a good idea to drive on 3 studs.

As far as the price goes, $100 is mighty high for this repair.

Make sure you don't overtighen lug nuts. Most people don't know that the proper torque actually stretches the stud a bit. But if you overtighten, it can cause stress cracks and failure.
