how likely is it that my cylinder walls will need honing to make my new setup work right? i'll be running C5 pistons w/ standard size rings on shot peened LS rods with a b16a head. The b18a block has 400k + on it but still runs amazing.

i would assume there is a fairly big taper on the cyclinder walls of the motor.

The best idea would be to tear down the block measure for out of round, look for scoring, and any other problems that need attention for the rings to seat properly. If you are using OEM rings then it is hard to duplicate an Oem type hone (ex. attnetion to what kind of stone you are using and the final finishes)

I would recommend you take the block to a machine shop, if you are worried about tackling the manual hone yourself. Otherwise do some research and you should be fine. You are just looking for the best possible ring seat.

goodluck.

Get the shop to do it. It's about 20 bucks a hole out here. Get them to hot tank or bath the block to clean it afterwards, if they don't do it anyways. Then you can paint it if you wish.
