Honda will build Civics at Greensburg plant
Honda plans to produce Civic small cars for its new Indiana auto manufacturing plant near Greensburg.
The Japanese automaker announced production plans today as it officially broke ground at the 1,700-acre site.
The addition of the $550 million facility will result in allowing Honda to produce 200,000 vehicles annually, boosting nationwide production from 1.4 million cars and light trucks to 1.6 million.
The company today also announced that Honda Indiana's first president will be Yuzo Uenohara, who previously was senior vice president at Honda Manufacturing of Alabama.
The Decatur County plant, which is set to open in 2008, initially will have about 2,000 workers, and 2,000 more could be added later.
The idea that Civics were coming was spelled out recently when TS Tech made public its plans to build a 200,000-square-foot factory and hire 300 people to build seats for Honda Civics.
