Swap opinions?

Hey guys i have a 94 civic hatch right now and am looking to swap out the d motor for something better. I realy wanted to do a h22 swap but i heard it throws off the handling and its sits to low. Than i was thinking b16 and possibly turbo in the future..i have about 3500 to play around with so what do you guys recommend? and with an h22 can i do a dry sump oil system or custom down pipe for more clearance? but basically whats the best thing i can do for about 3500? looking for all around not just drag wanna cut some corners to at the track.

IMO stay with a sohc vtec do some mods to the motor and boost. just my 2 cents.
you can pull the motor send the block in get it cleaned and ready for a rebuild do it your self if you know what your doing, new pistons ,rods and main bearings, then do the head some light modding there and build a decent low budget turbo setup yourself. upgrade you clutch ,flywheel. the list is endless if you know where to look for parts and know people.

friend of mine had a 91 si hatchback, rebuilt the stock d16 with eagle h beam rods, vitara low comp pistons allnew bottom end bearings, the head had a mild port and polish stock cam skunk2 cam gear, arp head bolt, commettic head gasket. i think he had some other mods too dont remember the turbo he had but he ran a 3" DP, 2.5" straight pipe exhaust (no cat) magnaflow side mount turno muffler, stock drive shafts too. theres a little more to it to but he was running 15psi at the track with no traction running 14.2 all day he eventually upgraded his tires and turned up the boost to 22 psi and that was fun till he wrote it off.

basically if you can do all the work yourself you can do alot more for less. and have a nice little rocket that you can pat yourself on the back after its done. just dont rush and do your research thats all.

that sounds really good man, i was thinking of doing a d-turbo but i want a reliable everyday driven car that can pull really well. I dont know how reliable that can be running 22 psi, but i guess if the engines built wel it shouldnt matter. The thing is though a buddy of mine putt a 22 in his eg all he did was intake, header, full 2.5 inch exsast with no cat, with an intake manifold throttble body and skunk2 cams and he was pulling low 13's and high 12's but the thing with a 22 is the clearance from downpipe and oil pan to the ground..does anyone find this a big issue? my car has tein coilovers now and i got it cross balanced the way i like it and its pretty low so i dont want to scrape my d/p on speed bumbs..thanks for your opinions but keep em comming better to learn from other ppl than blow $$$

ok now look at how much you will be spending on the motor, then the tranny, and the linkages, and the wiring and ecu, plus your mounts and any other stuff you have to buy then the exhaust you need to get done etc... the list goes on just for the H22 swap alone and then you have to worry about like you said about bottoming out with it too right.??

the d series is pretty reliable you will end up spending less, and the parts are easy to find aswell as cheap if something happens also. you dont neccessarily have to run 22 psi im just letting you know how much it can handle with little modding.

Boost the D series, cheap to replace and the d15b jdm you can get for 200-300 no need to mod it, the internal are good for up to 15 psi just dont go too crazy!!!

Good for daily driving and boost.........

i think u should save up for a type r.. not that much more. n/a is perfect for hondas. Sir's are good too. really depends on how u drive. its good to circuit with sir's or typer's . but if u drag jus go b20 turbo. another option oculd be b20/vtec.

get a B16 and do it up, good strong engines that can take alot, or even a B18.. You can do the H22A swap with a little mods.. Wont be to bad for weight problems and get a lot more horse out of it stock, than mod it later on.
