Honda Civic Engine Swap?

ok so this is my first car and i didnt really know much when i bought it...i was just looking for a car that gets good gas mileage for commuting...4 months later i want a powerful car...so im thinking about a engine swap...i have a 99 civic ex...i dont want to spend to much money but i want pretty good HP...so which engines are a possibility ..easiest to hardest in terms of price...and also which ones will be smog legal...prices would also be greatwould a Si engine be smog legal?

if you want to keep it cheap you should do a turbo. i've done them before on d-series. you can make over 200hp at the wheels if done right for less than most b series swaps. aside from that if you try to make loads of power your car will not be as fun on the street as if it makes a moderate wide power band. a well prepared and tuned turbo d is the best bang for the buck,$2000 or less completed including labor depending or what parts you want to use.
