How can I tell when the VTEC engages when I'm driving my 99 Honda Civic EX?

How can I tell when the VTEC engages when I'm driving my 99 Honda Civic EX?

At what point is VTEC is suppose to kick in? And how will I know?

It's always engaged, Vtec refers to the valve train. Vtec isn't some kind of turbo boost.

you will be on the road, trying to pass someone...and then you will go FLYING ahead! some people claim to have even gone back in time because it's so fast...but seriously, you can't tell. it's supposed to kick in when you floor it, but it's very hard to notice.

Ok let me set this straight. I am not verbally insulting anyone or making fun of they're answers. But VTEC does not kick in that late. It kicks in right at 5300 RPMS. 4700 if a controller is added.. On a stock vtec car you realllly have to listen to it. If you had a cool air intake, headers and exhaust you would be able to hear it a little better. Now lets say you have a B18 C1-R that beast will scream at you haha. DOHC is way better. Ever feel like getting a better engine go that way haha.
