Where do I locate the engine number on a Honda Civic?

Where do I locate the engine number on a Honda Civic?
I'm planning on buying a Honda Civic 1998 VTi sedan. I want to do a revs check but I don't know where to find the engine number

well most of all info if located on the firewall as soon as you pop the hood look straight ahead towards the begining of the windshield

Usually engine numbers are stamped into the engine block. Sometimes there is so many ancillary bits bolted on you can't find it. Suggest looking at VIN plate (usually riveted to engine bay bulkhead). Otherwise google the Honda car fanatics and ask them.
