Sure. As you know the cruise control will disengage as soon as you step
on the brake or on the clutch. There is a switch on the brake pedal and
one on the clutch pedal for this purpose. If either one of these
switches fail, the cruise control electronics will believe that the
brake or clutch pedal being pressed and thus refuse to engage the cruise
control.
The brake pedal switch is the same switch that turns on the brake lights
when you step on the brakes. This switch has two sets of contacts, one
set for the brake lights and one set for the cruise control. This means
that even if your brake lights work, the switch may be bad.

Yes, that helps. If the light in the instrument cluster comes on then
the switches at the pedal are working just fine. Just as a test, does
that light go out when you press the brake?

Re: Cruise not working
Happened to me on my '92 when the electrical and vacuum connections at
the servo under the hood were left unplugged. Check the connections. bob

If the vacuum connections were left unplugged
the cruise light would drop off in 1 second after
engaging the `set' button, in my test of course.
I'm thinking the mechanisms is not working properly under the
hood. Above speeds of 40 mph, peer outside and see if it's
working, with the hood open, of course.
