it depends on coolant temp, oil pressure and RPM.
And the ecu mapping. It never kicks in at 2500 if it does there is
something wrong!!
more like 5000 on the low end some of them are upward of 6500 rpm

That would be fairly worthless on my VTEC engine. Peak HP is at 5700.
Redline is at 6000. There are different types of VTEC. The leecao page
has a chart of which model gets which style.

Woohoo! Good to see people still looking at that VTEC page. However, those
pages haven't been updated in a very long time and does not include any
information on the new i-VTEC engines.
But in any case, if the redline is at 6000 I would imagine the VTEC
switchover point will be somewhere in the range of 4000 to 5000 RPMs.

That's about where my 94 Integra GSR kicks in.
Whole concept of VTEC is to have a mild cam profile for low RPM driving, and
a more 'radical' cam profile for high RPM,increasing valve lift and
duration for better high RPM breathing.Honda VTEC hydraulically locks the
extra cam lobe lifter to the regular lifter to achieve this,as I understand
it.
