2004 Santa Fe oil filter...special???
I remember we had a vw golf..and was told not to use off the shelf oil
filters.
The VW ones had something in there that maintains positive pressure on the
oil reservoir...or some such techno mumbo jumbo.
Anyway, does anyone know if I can walk into a car parts place and grab a
Fram or Purolater filter for my Santa Fe....or do I have to buy a Hyundai
one???
Thanks for any insite.

Shouldn't be a problem. Be sure to choose a name brand like the ones you
mentioned. I once went into a Trak-Auto and purchased a Pennzoil filter
for my Toyota. My oil pressure was significantly lower. About six months
later I spun a rod bearing. I don't know whether it was old age or the
lower oil pressure that caused the bearing to spin, but I now make sure
the name on the box is that of a known reputable filter company. I've
never had a problem with Fram, Lee, Purolator, ACDelco, or Motorcraft.

I have found that the OEM (Hyundai) filter is cheaper than after
market. AT one dealership, they have buy two, get one free (which
works out to be about $3.80 ea), the other dealer always gives 30% off
all parts here in California. I use both. I typically buy 6 filters at
a time as I have an 02 XG350L and my wife has an 02 SantaFe so I use
them alot. Good luck. Oh, BTW, ask for the CRUSH washer that they use
as the old one is spent when removed (drain plug washer).

Re: 2004 Santa Fe oil filter...special???
There is a valve that helps keep the oil up in the heads and avoids drain
down. Some filters use a cardboard base that will collapse under pressure.
I've been happy with the NAPA filter specs but almost any of the higher end
filters are just fine.

I use AC Delco filters for all my cars for years including my '02
Santa Fe. Stay away from Fram.

Re: 2004 Santa Fe oil filter...special???
I live in Springfield Mo. the guy there told me to always use the AC delco,
and stay away from everything else. 2 washers and a filter here are $8.42
with tax at the Hyundai dealer 3500 engine which is the same as the big
santa Fe engine. the guy in ca. has got a good deal on his for 3.80 each.
The AC delco one is a better buy here going for $3.99. I use mobil one in
it and change every 6 months or 3000 miles.
