g35x vs. s4

This happenned a couple of months ago but I thought I would share.

I was driving back on the QEW from the niagara doing about 130-140 depending on traffic. I passed what I thought was a regular A4 (newest body style) and didn't think much about it.

After I got a few cars ahead I saw him move in and out of traffic to catch up.

When we got to about the Ford plant my lane (left most) was open and he was right behind me. We were at about 135 or so and I decide to give it a go (My car is the X so it is auto, and I left it in auto since I find the shiftronic a little laggy). By 170 he was still behind me but I was not pulling, nor was he catching up. At this point he swung into the middle lane and by about 195 he was ahead by 0.5 cars and I shut it down.

At this point I am like (wow, that is one fast A4, and was wondering what he had done to it). Byt this time there was some traffic ahead and we ended up in line again, this time he was ahead of me and crept up a little closer to see if this was a 1.8T or a 3.0, and it turns out it was an S4!

I was quite surprised I was able to hang with him that long.

Well, the QEW openned up again and this time he was ahead and we punched it again, from 140 to 170 I felt like I was gaining (maybe I jumped a little early, but I had to back off at one point because i was getting to close), but by 180 he started pulling on me again. By 190-195 I shut it down again. I was probably 1-1.5 cars behind

I got killed twice, but it was fun. I flicked the high beams and we waved at each other as I got onto the 427 and he continued downtown.

good story, not like most of the typical kill threads aound here!

s4s aren't as fast as everyone make them out to be, they are pretty heavy (close to 2 tons!)... .(REALLY front heavy, much like all audis before it), but they sure are painstakingly pretty.... on the other hand, G35x, i think the 05s have 280 hp dont they? at least i know the 06s are 280hp, and 300 lbs weight advantage... i guess the gearing also played a role in terms of when he started pulling

The 05's have 280. I would be curious to see how it owuld have turned out from a dead stop, I think I may end up the first place loser again...the s4 has a 4.2L v8 correct?

I have noticed that off the line the g35 is a little slow (maybe b/c of the weight), but at cruising speed, if I tromp on the gas it just flies...

I thought it would be the other way around, since the x is an AWD you would get good launches but pretty slow on the highway (thats just what i thought)
nice story anyway.

One of the reasons I bought the car is because from a dead stop the AWD starts off with a 25/75 % front to rear split. Once I get above 20km/h (if the road conditions are normal), all the power goes to the rear. So on the hwy it is actually in full rear wheel drive mode. The front wheels only kick in if the car senses slippage.
