impotation of 2 stroke
engines? I heard that the epa has new rules and regulations over the importation of 2 stroke engines in scooters. If the engine is small, like 49cc, would regulations govern it? What about 2 stroke chainsaws, blowers, etc. If engine is same size, would it fall under use of motor? A scooter motor will be used for other things than a chainsaw, for example.I tried to read epa.gov page, but got lost in the verbage. Any of you out there in Answers land imported/exported anything like this and know from experience?

it depends on govt. to govt. in each country. 2 stroke engines cause much pollution than 4 stroke so there are different policies for the use of 2 stroke engines. generally engine size smaller than 50 cc dont fall under and restriction (i am talking about India) so it entirely depends on govt. policies. but any other engine of same size shouldn't be count under scooter engines category.

I ride a 50cc 2-stroke TGB, which is brand new, and the website says that all of their 2-stroke scootes are DOT and EPA licensed... I think it's still up to the state to accept or refuse such a scooter, but without the DOT/EPA certification, they can't accept it...So--- as always... it's down to your state or locality... Check with them.
