monopoly street rep is low. keep going
Hey 2000SIR,

Forgot to post up that i bought a 96' ninja 500 last week. I got my M1 a few days ago and im pretty happy with the bike it has some decent pep and handles pretty good but i think i need new tires b/c they are looking kinda bald in the center and a new battery.

Bikes are in fun as hell! But i think im still going to purchase another sports car though...You just cant have enough toys

how much do new batteries usually go for?

Hey anybody old school out there who needs a good laugh?
about 11 years ago I came across this nice innocent looking bike in a shed belonging to my now ex's dad. The battery cover said 500, so i thought that would be a good little bike to learn on. I asked about it and found out that it was a 1975 Kawasaki. I in turn thought that it would be cool to have a bike the same age as me, so I paid $400 for it nd pushed it about 6 km across town to my house where I proceeded to dismantle it to rebuild it. Over the next three years I rebuilt the engine all 3 yes 3 carburetors, and replaced all 3 yes 3 individual exhaust pipes. I replaced the oil injection system, all the while it never occured to me that this bike that weighed about 500 pounds, had 3 cylinders, 3 mikuni carbs, and three glass pack mufflers, was obviously 2 stroke(no valves or cams), probably had a fair bit of power.
Also all the time I was buying parts, and asking for advice nobody told me that it probably had close 100 horsepower.
When I finished it, I drove it around for about 3 days before I took it to a friend of mine who used to race bikes in the 70's. I pulled in the parking lot and he was waiting at the door for me. First thing he asked is was that an H1 500r that I just rode in on? I'm standing there with a stupid *** look on my face going duh yeah! Then he asks me if it's my first bike, which I say yeah I just finished restoring it, and how did you know it was an H1 500r?
he says I'd recognize that exhaust note anywhere. It sounded like about 10 chain saws all runing at the same time when idling, but I didn't have the carbs set up well enough to know what it was suposed to sound like under power. It bogged down really bad, and I had been shifting around 3000 rpm ever since I finished it. I had a lot of time and money and skinned knucklles init and there was no way that I was going to wreck it.
I asked him to help me with setting up the Carbs, and he said sure but he was going to de-tune it all little for me. I said OK because the only thing that I was planning to do was ride back and forth to work, about 38 km a day, the whole reason I bought it.
Twenty minutes later he was done, and I didn't think it was the same bike. First kick of the starter, and it sounded like a huge weedeater. I drove it around going holy this thing is quick! But I was still shifting around 3000 rpm.
About 2 days later I was on my way to work, which involved hopping on the 402 out of Sarnia, and cruising up to Mandaumin side road, about 14 km. As I was coming on the ramp there was a semi there so as soon as I was going straight I got on the throttle about 3/4 full. I wasjust about to shift at about 3500, the first time it had been that high since I had it when all of a sudden the front wheel was about 3 inches off the ground, the tach read 11,000 rpm and the speedo read around 70 miles an hour. And I was still in the merge lane!
Well holy I just about myself reaching for the clutch, shifter and brakes all at the same time. Keep on mind this is my first bike and I've had for about 10 days.
Just for the record I still have it but I've got some serious respect for that little 500cc bike that I was stupid enough to think would be a good starter bike. Noone told me they called those things widowmakers.
I' ve riden lots of other bikes including some ninjas, gsxrs etc, but nothing compares to that little Kawi. The best feature that I would love to see on newer bikes is the neutral at bottom shifter. No missing 2nd on that bike.
N bottom, 1,2,3,4,5 up. Nice Eh!
Anyway just thought some one could use a good laugh. I have never laid it down, and I will never sell it. I love going to dover, and seeing all the harley riders that remember back that far drooling.

^cool. Do any of you know what the PCJ-600 in "Grand Theft Auto: Vice City/ San Andreas" is in real life? I think that bike is pretty cool and have been wondering what it is for awhile. Some people say its an 1980's Honda CBR600? Is that right?
-thanks
heres a google link to images if you forgot or never played this game. Click Me Please

edit: also to mention these games take place around the 1980's-1992

Yeah I think the pcj 600 is a rep of cbr 600. Check out the fcr 900 and nrg 500 race bike in GTA SA. Love the series!! SA and Vice City rock.

bump this thread.

With the way gas went last summer(and already starting again, this summer) I was considering a bike. I dont have my M1 yet (since I"m still debating if I want to get a bike, or a car). I'm looking around on autotrader for some bikes.

I saw this one. How would this be for insurance? It doesn't have 'R' in the name, but it's a 600. Too big?

http://www.trader.ca/Search/Enlarged...px?large&CAT=4

ANy other suggestions? I would rather not buy a smaller bike then sell, in case I have ttrouble selling it.

I wouldnt say a 600 is too big. Especially if your a bigger guy too!

On the other hand insurance is always an issue with sport bikes...I mean i have a gs500f which is fairly small and the cheapest rate i can get with my M2 and after taking the course was 1500 with just liability

Some may say 1500 isnt much, but considering my driving record is CLEAN and i also have a car too that seems mental and i dont really feel like paying it. kinda turns me away from the whole bike scene untill my rates drop.

How old are you? Im 29 now, but back when I was 23, I rode a GSX-R750 and was paying 1100 for liability only through Canada Life Casualty. No tickets, no claims at the time.
