What engine should i put in my 240sx

hey guys, i was just wondering what engine to go with. I know the SR20DET is a common swap but would i be better off going with the stock 2.4L and just doing some mods. And is the SR20DET really that fast like i hear?.
Also where would you recommend doing an engine swap in the GTA.

I have read up on both these motors a while back...it wasn't very detailed, but the jist of the article was that the 2.4L is just as good, if not better than the SR20. the obvious advantages of the SR is obviously boosted from the factory and what not.

but then again, you have the 2.4L with more displacement and it has enough parts out there to throw on a turdblow. search for some 240SX forums & you will be OVERLOADED with info on this...

The sr20 is around 202 to 247 hp depending on the year and model of the motor, They are not increadably fast with no work done to them, but they are easy to build for crazy numbers I belive(may be wrong on this) the sr is good for 400hp on stock internals.

The ka24, factory 140 hp at the wheels but can be built to around 300hp with minimum internals, While parts are alot more expencive and harder to get, (and quality is not the same as the sr parts) They are becoming more readaly available, good Ka-t set up should cost you around $3000 so not much cheaper then the sr(going for $4000 installed if you know where to look) The big plus for the Ka-t is the tourqe it has alot more tourqe then the sr and alot more responcive with a t25/t28 turbo you are looking at 180-200 hp.

Na you have some options on the ka, Highflow exaust intake and ported head and intake manifold will do wonders, also advancing the timing will help alot(although burn more fuel) with a lightend flywheel race clutch, and ignition, some internals you can have a prepy responcive tourquy streetable car.

RB20DET. Lots more potential but it initial cost is quite a bit higher. The fab work increases the cost but the engine it's self isn't much more if you know where to look. Since these engines are getting more popular parts aren't quite the issue they used to be. Talk to to some people on some of the Nissan forums who have done both swaps and they'll tell you to just do the RB. I'm gathering parts for my swap right now. If you're serious PM me and I'll give you some more info.

If you're going to do that, may as well do RB25, at which point you may as well do RB26...

the RB25 and especially RB26 need more fab work to fit properly. They are also quite a bit more money to buy. The extra height to those engines mean you need to do some work with yor hood. That and since the RB26 is a twin turbo (unless you convert to a single setup), its really shoehorned in there and a pain to do any work on. I read an article by a guy with on RB26EDTT and to change spark plugs took him over 2 hours.

Have you SEEN an RB20? Have you seen the MASSIVE INTAKE PLENUM THAT GOES OVER THE ENGINE?! And you're telling me an RB26 would be harder to work on?

yes it would be harder to work on. I'm not saying the RB20 would be a peice of cake by any means. Yes I have seen an RB20. It is my understanding that a RB20 will fit under the stock hood where as the RB25 & RB26 will not. So read into my statements all you want. All I'm saying to Brent240 is to consider the RB series engines. They are an alternative to the SR engines that are a little more unique and have much more potential.

i say drop in an RB25DET as well, i have been dreaming of that motor for many years now, long before anyone dumped it in here in N america.......

cost more than the typical sr swap, but u get 6 cylinders and alot of power to play with imo

I have determined that the bang for the buck is staying with the ka and adding some boost, you pay 2500 for a sr front clip, i bought a ka with tranny and wiring harness for 300, so that leaves me with 2200, with half that amouth i will have a turbo kit on it pushing anywhere from 200-350 hp to the wheels, no stock sr can say that
