I have a catalytic converter that needs to be replaced but I won't be doing that for two weeks. I want to turn the check engine light off in my car. How can I do that ? Honda CRV 2000

I had a bad converter and drilled holes in it with a 1/8 size drill bit, about 6 holes and all the little beed fell out and it ran like it's supposed to,you could try that, anthor thing i did was,put a peice of electrical tape on the light,so you can't see it,good luck.

alot of tiomes they stay on. you can roll a new car off the show room floor and the light will be on. go to your auto parts store and get tm to check it out. it should be free of charge.

I think if you find the wire going to co2 detector it would go off if you disconnected it. They are just like a switch that grounds the wire which makes a complete circuit and turns the light on. Also unless your catalytic converter is plugged your car will still run great. You may have to do what the other guy said too. After you pull the wire disconnect the battery to reset it off.

You can't turn the check engine light off, not even by unplugging the battery. It is a computer wired vehicle and the computer has pulled a code meaning something is not right somewhere. Take it to the dealership and ask them what the code is and have them clear it, but if you don't fix the problem it will continue to pull that same code. It is probably 50.00 max for them to clear the code. You can't do it any other way.

THE BEST WAY and free way isgo to a Pepboys or Napa or Autozone place, ask them if you can borrow their scanner, you have to leave a credit card or your license with them just so they know your not going to steal the scanner, then plug it into the computer of your car,its under the steering wheel kinda, look under there you will see the connection that matches the wire on the scanner, plug it read whats wrong it will give you code, you can write it down, and then it will ask you if you want to erase the checkenginge light, press yes or ok, and if its a minor problem it will go away, if its a big problem it will tell you what it is.hope that helps
