A Tribute to Pontiac



For the past six decades, thousands of cars have passed through the hands of Motor Trend staffers and onto our pages both in print and later on the Web as we've charted a course into the digital age. Along the way, we've had the pleasure of testing many an arrowhead-wearing, tire-smoking Pontiac.

Though Pontiac struggled to find its place in the General Motors lineup in recent years -- an issue that ultimately helped hasten its recent demise -- we've always had a soft spot for the GM brand historically dedicated to performance. After all, Pontiac helped spark the Musclecar Wars and held onto its performance credo long after its competitors had thrown in the towel. Pontiac took home our coveted Car of the Year golden calipers five times during its run, twice for the entire Pontiac Motor Division in 1959 and 1965 and three times for individual models -- the 1961 Pontiac Tempest, the 1968 Pontiac GTO and the 1988 Pontiac Grand Prix.
