MKIII Toyota Supra
You want an explanation? Sure ... but you might wanna learn how to read first.
From http://racingarticles.com/article_racing-34.html:
"I would like to focus on what to install into a racecars transmission for the abuses of racing, to help make the difference between failure and winning races. We are going to cover the GM Powerglide 2-speed transmission, due to it’s growing popularity into auto racing. The first step is to take the transmission apart ... Now that your Powerglide has been built right using quality parts, it’s time to win races with a quality built automatic!"

NO! Don't do that! OBD II (That's what's on your Malibu) is completely software controlled! Grounding pins on the OBDII interface will cause damage to the ECU (ECM for OBDI, and ECU for OBDII) I worked for GM for a while, and I know A LOT about modding the ECU. Perhaps you should look at a Hypertech Power Programmer to get better shift points from your ECU. If you want to get shift paddles or button shifters, you can easily have this custom made. But first off, note that it will NOT make your shifting faster. To achieve faster and firmer shifting, you should install a "Shift Improver" AKA Shift-Kit. Do NOT install a B&M shift improver that does not install new springs. The 30 and 40 dollar shift improvers only increase line preasure and can lower the life on your transmission.
Note: Manually shifting an automatic transmission is NOT good for your tranny. I know this from experience and from working in an auto shop for a prolonged amount of time. Special Tiptronic Transmissions can be installed or standard automatic trannies can be built up to take the abuse.
Many people are going to argue with me on this, but you should talk to a transmission shop before you attempt this.
Finally, if you want to shift, get a manual. I don't drive a manual, even though I like stick shift, but I race in the 1/4 mile and automatic transmissions with shift-kits are in fact faster than a manual because the computer is faster than human reaction and can give a MUCH more firm shift without burning out a clutch. If you're looking for proof, you can check out any LINGENFELTER 1/4 mile racer (www.lingenfelter.com) or pretty much any 1/4 mile winner. Most people say speed is in the driver, it's only true for GT and curving race tracks. Straight line, it's all about how much the driver weighs and how fast he can put his foot down on the peddle.

Hope your eyes have been opened up a little, Mr. Hardcore Newb. I forgot that it is not the ECU that is being modified, so yes, I am careless for referring to the chip that controls the engine of a car when speaking about the performance of an automatic transmission. I mixed that up with something else, so don't **** in yourself.

Why are you crying to the mods? I ain't do nothing wrong. You call me a bitch and you expect me to let you go just like that? How old are you, anyway? Never MIND THAT. If you have something to say, say it to my face. Biaaaattttcchhhhhh ...

2. I can do that swap in a couple hours. You are going to need the tranmission, bellhousing, Flywheel, pressure plate, clutch disc (and all necessary bearings), clutch fork, shifter and bushings, driveshaft. You can use the automatic ecu with the manual trans (some people even say it gets rid of rev limiti) but its ideal to use a manual trans ECU. Each part depends if you use an R154 or W58 transmission as well, they aren't interchangable. That aside, built correctly, the A340 auto trans is really nice and you can get manaual paddle shifters for it (ferrari style). Roughly ~$600-800 for the complete swap (not including labour)
3. you are one dumb motherfuerk
4.
