If you got it fixed right afterwards, take the receipt with you to court, and they will throw it out

I fought mine in court and lost. I had 2 DOT approved mufflers, receipt from install, my e-tests and I still lost.

$0 fine but found guilty.

Judge said if it's not from the factory, its "improper". Crock of if you ask me

WTF? I wonder who pissed in that Judges Cornflakes.

There are many many reasons that people change from stock mufflers, that are not related to performance, or how they sound.

ie. a larger exhaust eliminates back pressure on the engine, which is a.) easier on the engine and b.) better on fuel economy

I am yanking the Stock exhaust off my A4 and replacing it with a Borla 3" Turbo back system, and I am not doing it for performance, I am doing it because the damn stock exhaust system hangs about 2" lower than the skid plates, so when I drop it, I am not going to be bouncing my exhaust off the ground and ripping the Flex pipe off like I did a couple weeks ago.

I love how these cops go after cars with a slightly modified exhaust system, but they won't touch the guys with the huge F350's with the 4 1/2" stack pipe exhausts from a frigging semi, that are ten times louder than any rice rocket exhaust. or the bikers with their Harley's systems cut down so you can't hear yourself think when they go by.

I think with the Audi you should be good. Its a different class of car as far as the police are concerned than say a Honda Civic or Ford Mustang.

I was pissed when it happened. In 05 I even posted about it here when talking about hiring agents to represent you.

Yea the Audi is a different class of car, LOL I don't get pulled over because of what I've done to the car or how fast I was going, I get pulled over because the cops think the car is stolen LOL.

Obviously there are quite a few cops out there that don't believe that a 25 year old Male should be driving around in an Audi unless he stole it LOL

although the cops here in London are absolute tools, My brother got hassled by the cops for a few years in his 99 Tiburon, and finally after his 5th license check he asked the cop why he was being pulled over, the cop told him it was because they suspected him to be a member of the Hells angels. Which I found very funny because my brother is 6'3" 140lbs if that, and my brother definitely does not own a bike.

They 'Suspected' him of being a Hells angel because the shop he worked for at the time, happened to be right beside one of the angel's clubhouses in town, so the cops figured if he was seen going to and from there all the time, he had to be one, they didn't figure out that there may be a legitimate reason why he might be going there, maybe something as simple as he works beside the clubhouse

Believe me, if you have a harley you will be harassed, especially if rocking the leathers. I can't even remember how many stories I've heard from my dad about being stopped for absolutely no reason.

Improper mufflers are easy to fight if your referring to noise level, as that is fairly relevant to one's ears Receipt of fixing would be the easiest defense
