insurance...

I'm going to buy my car soon....

It's gone be my first one, I'm 16 years old with a g2 and I'm looking primarly at the 89 and 90 240sx. I have one on my eyes its 2g'z and 207km (suspension work and rims) and the thing is I want to pay insurance myself I like to be independent. I'm still in highschool gr.11 and I make anywhere from 500-1000 a month depending on how much I work usually oct-feb I make less due to basketball season.

Anyways I got quoted 331 a month from belair insurance (online quote). I'm gone start calling by phone after the new year, when I call should i say I already own a vehicle so they treat me more serious. What are some good places to call around and if you're going to hijack my thread saying don't get a car blah blah blah then just getthefukouttahere.

You make $500 to $1000 per month, and you're being quoted $331 for insurance? Don't be surprised if it goes higher than that, especially after you rack up your first couple of tickets or accident.

But let's stay with the $331 for now. Add $6 a month for license plates, $200 a month (maybe a whole lot more) for fuel, and that already leaves you in the red in for some months before you even begin to look at the costs of vehicle maintenance and repair.

But hell, you can always drop out of school to support your habit, right?

You mentioned that you went for your test in Scarborough, so that implies you are close to public transit. If you were smart, you would hold off buying your own car, borrowing your parent's car and taking transit for a couple of years instead.

In that couple of years, you would save MANY thousands of dollars in insuarnce premiums and vehicle ownership costs. You can use the savings to buy a decent car instead of the shitboxes you're looking at now.

In a couple of years, the insurance companies will also see you as less of a risk, meaning that your insurance rates will be lower even on a much nicer car than the shitboxes you're looking at buying now.

But no, you won't do that. You've already locked yourself into a plan, and you've probably spent months bragging to all of your friends about how you're going to get one mad fast car and then soup it up and then race it, on street or off. Back out now and you'll lose face while all your friends laugh at "the big shot" who fell back down to earth.

So you'll go ahead with your plans rather than lose face, no matter how close it drives you to personal bankruptcy, no matter how fast the thing will burn a hole into your wallet.

And then, judging by some of your other posts, you'll end up crashing your car into a ditch, or a lightpost, or another person or their car. Becaue you're on a budget, and because you're considered extremely high risk as a young and new driver, you won't be able to afford collision insurance, so that first crash will also be your last one for a while. The car will be dead and you'll be walking again.

In the meantime, the kid who passed on getting his own car "right now" will be several thousands of $ ahead of you. While you're scraping up nickels and dimes to afford your next shitbox, that kid who waited 2 or 3 years will be sliding behind the wheel of a decent new or almost new car and be able to properly insure it.

You and that other kid will no doubt meet up at a set of traffic lights somewhere. You'll look over with envy at a nice set of wheels. That other kid will look back at you and you'll be able to read the disdainful expression of "what a wreck" on his face. And then when the light turns green, you'll floor it off the line to "prove" to him how wrong he is, just before you land in your next crash.

Think it won't happen to you? This plays out over and over again every day.

gldwngr is right, but some of it is like hardcore extreme.
i was in high school recently so i can sorta relate. honestly, if you can take the ttc or whatever to school, just do it. there really no point of your own car in grade 11 especially, unless you wanna be the cool kid. but, from what i've noticed, the guys who drive to school like everyday are more likely to get into an accident, and a couple of my friends have too. if your paying for insurance independantly, an accident is gonna hurt you. plus, not to mention the street racing your gonna do with your other friends with cars (dont lie and say no, you know its gonna happen lol) that might end up with a ticket.
plus, if your gonna go to a local university, like uoft or ryerson, york too, take it from experience, your car's gonna sit in the garage unless you wanna take the risk driving to downtown everyday and stuff. no point when you can make use of your time and study on the subway and stuff. but, if you can really afford a car, i'd say buy it near the end of grade 12.

Well i guess after university is the best time... since all I gotta do is work 9-5... and no more school to worry about so i guess getting my first car at like 22 or 23 wont be so bad (350z ) ... atleast I won't have to fuken work 80hrs a month just to pay off the car while attending school... it would be like a cycle...

drive to work
work and make money to pay for the car insurance, gas and mentiance

it would seem like im going to work just so i can pay off the car just so i can go to work with it...

anyways hope you guys understand what I'm trying to say... I will focus more on my academics and sports I guess, I'm supposed to move to an apartment in which i would have to pay for parking so thats an extra 40bucks... I think ill just drive my moms buick

unless I can somehow get my dad to pay for insurance.. cuz he's not paying for and i live with my moms

and happy new years to everyone... I'm here stuck at home, was suppose to go to some party but fuken came up
