I know I'm going to destroy a tranny, before I get a full season in. That's why I've got a couple extras here, including a 9A, that's being rebuilt, with straight cuts, and a peloquin. I'm expecting that I'll likely break that case, or something also. Hey, if you want to go, stuff only lasts so long.
To be quite honest... 500HP can be done on a stock 1.8T, but you will need engine management, and a very good tuner.

Are you building a 1/4 mile car (sounds like you are w/ 500HP)? Because a track car surly doesn't need that much HP in a light shell like that to stay competitive. Also if it's going to be a track/road course car, you might want to look up the rules of the call you want to participate in.

1/4 mile only. If I want to road race, I've got a mint MK1 GTI here too. As for tuning, I'm going to worry about getting the power I want/need, after I get the body/suspension done. I've still got a fair bit to do.

No real updates, other than I'm still looking for either a welder to borrow, or someone who can come down to KW and do some welding for me. I'd prefer to get my own welder, as I'd like to learn how.

The area I cut out, you could poke a Phillips screwdriver through, basically anywhere. Fortunatley, the tunnel, and the 1/4's weren't affected.

Update, with some new pics. Some of you might have seen the DIY I put up in the VW section, and well, here is the end result. Took it for a short drive today, sitting on a recycle bin. I never realized how much of a difference no dash or anything makes in the acceleration. Almost ended up in the hatch when I got on the gas hard. The last pic is kinda dark, but gives an idea of how much wieght I've removed from it. There's about 4 inches of space above the rear tires, and a good 2.5 inches above the front tires. I going to guess since it was soaked, the carpet underlay, and the rubber crap likely weighed a good 150lbs. I'm still scraping it off, and well, I get to make a trip to Walmart or somewhere, to clean them out of Goo Gone. Aparently that's the best way to get all the insulation off the front crossmember. The torch, well, not so much. That's 's VERY flammable.

And as for 759 hp on a stock bottom end.. lmfao... trust me, that motor does NOT have a stock bottom end. The 1.8T is a good motor, and can make a lot of power on a stock bottom end, but it won't make that much (reliably)... also I believe a buddy told me that it's displacement is 2000cc.
It made 540whp on a stock block, but I think it only ran on the dyno. They put in a built block and turned up the boost afterwards

My Brother has a Welder if you are looking for one. I can talk to him and see about letting you get your hands on it for a bit.
