Do you mind buying used? You can get some good gear cheap if willing to buy it used. Check the for sale section on here first. If you don't find what you want just Google Canadian car audio forums and check the for sale sections on the various forums out there. I have personally bought a bunch of stuff this way and have not been dissapointed. Just be careful and use your head as there are a lot of scams going out there. Personally I prefer to meet up with the seller and at least visually inspect anything before I hand over any cash. Used speakers especially subs are not recomended tho as they are prone to abuse. Also helps to do a little research on the seller to see if there have been issues in the past. E-bay is a good source for cheap audio, but usually run into warranty issues there, and extra costs to import if seller is not in Canada. STAY OUT OF WALMART, CRAPPY TIRE and FLEA MARKETS tho. Trust me been there done that and it never ends well LOL. If you want to buy new for the warranty check a couple of local car audio stores out, then go to Future shop, Best buy and compare prices. These guys are a site sponser here and helped me in the past.

Basically any new stuff from the name brands even the bottom of the barrel lines will be good and reliable and if bought from authorized retailer will come with warranty and support from store staff usually. I have a Kenwood deck paid $89 BNIB at Best buy and is working like a charm. You don't need to spend $5k to have a good system.
Hope this helps a bit
Nick

it really depends what you want in your system how many subs? size
do you wanna amply your mids or run them off the deck?
a decent simple system can cost you 500-600 and consists of
-deck
-2 pairs of speakers (4)
-amp
-1 12" sub

and i'm talking used btw

A budget would help everyone looking at this thread come up with some possible setups for you.

Matthew, how much cash you got?

A cheap $500 system or a cheap $5000 system?

You can buy used, be cautious. There is good deals on equipment both in the new and used categories.

Im also looking to start and build a fairly cheap system

Rite now i have a jeep cherokee, ans i look to spend about 3-500

I want to go all used, and install my self, and hopefully be able to put the jeep back to stock and transfer everything to a nw car in about 8 months

rite now im thinking:

deck: $120.00
sub+sub box (1 12 or maybe 2 10s): <$100.00
2 pais of speakers: $ 120.00
amp, wirering: ???

the amp and wiring part is what i don't know about and i don't know if the numbers i have a bove are reasonable. Maybe someone could help me find decent equipement or sujest a budget adjustment...?
