pioneer has more functionality and better sound quality (specially the bass)
i had the deh-6800mp and it came with 3 band equalizers,different sound effects i.eowerful,vocal,rock and best of all subwoofer control from 12hz to -12
even the deh-4800mp had pretty much the same features for less...i believe it goes for around 200 at future shop

I would recommend anything by the Pioneer Premier lineup. It costs a little more but you get a longer warranty, better power supply and apparently better processing. I've had no problems with Pioneer at all.

pioneer defiantly owns sony, i mean for a low end deck either should be ok. but anything over 200 fo a deck pionner owns and anything amp/speaker wise pioneer is the better choice.
