87' Iroc-z Keeps Stalling

hey, my friend has a 87' Iroc.. and we tried getting it to start today cuz it was pretty nice out. so last night he charged the battery, so we put that all in.. and it wouldnt turn over, so we messed with the terminals and finally got the positive terminal all good.. so then it started, and it was sounding good no stalling at all, and theres this one hose on the driver side right behind the headlight, connected to a sensor, and when we pull that off the car runs even better, but when we put it back in it starts stalling again. And of course when we block off the hose with our finger the car stalls... What is that thing anyways, but our problem is that when he was sitting there in park he was revving it and running it fine, then right when he put it in drive it stalled.

its like a canister.. its not the cruise control.. but he said someone said that it cleans the fuel or something? so i dunno.. but we put in his old MAF and got the car to move again, and drive.. but still big loss of power, and car idles between 3 and 11 rpms just ad idle.

that is the charcol (spelling??) like in a grill canistor I think it just gets rid of gas vapors I don't know why would effect the way it runs cause mine is removed and the vent just goes down toward the ground.

Clean The Idle control valve It's located in the throttle body. If the car has a lot of miles on it it's most likley the culpret.

the charchol(spelling) canister i think, is where the unbured fuel goes and gets pused back through to get burned(used). kinda like a storage of un-used fuel that gets pumped back into the engine 2 be used. so if that line has anything wrong with it then the system is bogged down and the un-used fuel has no where to go, or to go to. i think im right, not sure tho, never had ne canister probs on my 87' IROC.
the purpose of the canister i believe is to help all the fuel to become used so its more "environment friendly"

that is exactly right, and if it runs real rich the filter gets clogged and the car starves for fuel

hey dude i had that same problem thats the fuel pump relay. and it is probably staling because ur fuel pump is either full of junk or its goin bad. eventually it will probably start to run very lean. but u must keep that switch plugged in otherwise it will mess up the computer readings. have the fuel pump pressure checked out.
