FUEL PUMP

94 Camaro 3.4 (Slomaro)

Turns Turns Turns nada. No pressure from the fuel lines...ahhhhh fooey
Fuel Pump and its inside the tank

Your opinions on the idiot meter for removal and replacement. Im a fairly ok wrench but curious about how difficult you all rate the removal and replacement of the fuel pump

Seeing as how you have to drop the whole rear end and fuel tank to get at it... it's not an easy job. Dealerships will rape you to do it too. All i can say is good luck.

yep gotts get teh tank out, and in an f body it's a chore. Resist the temptation to cut a hole in the floor, it's a redneck approach

Fuel pump removal...2 hours

Its actually very easy on the fbodies. Just cut a small 'trap door' in the hatch area, under the carpet and the whole unit is accesible without removing the rearend and fuel tank. Thats how I did mine and it was very simple. This isnt redneck either, its cost/time efficient. Here is a write-up on how do it:

Good luck!

this is the redneck version, and if you ever plan on selling the car don't do it. If you have a shop that does that make them buy you a new floor (your floor is your frame cutting a giant hole is not structurallly sound) if you can't do the job correctly pay someone who will

it took me 20 mins to change my fuel pump! That redneck way the you were talking about but with the part you cut out i put a hing on it and and some weather stripping around the hole when i put it back on and it looks great! Im glad i did it beacause a lot of the aftermarket fuel pumps ruber hose on the pump inside the tank gose bad! I was at the track when it happend and it only took me 15 mins to pull the fuel pump and fix it! So i love it! If you do a search on ls1tech you will see tons of people do this!!

mine is like that but my hole is a lot smaller and it looks way better!! And is for selling it there is nothing to worry about! I dosnt hurt anything if you do it right! And is for paying someone to do the job properly LOL i cant wait to see you fork out the money to do it or you lay hours under your car for hours just because your stubborn

if someone finds it they can actually come back against you (if a mechanic does it they lose their license) I have done a few, and I always do the job right. If you can't do it right then don't drive (my personal feelings from fixing shadetree mechanics garbage) as for the hose comming off, if you buy quality then that doesn't happen, pay for it once for the right stuff or for years fixing the cheap stuff, just because alot of people do it doesn't make it right (many people also use a tube of silicone sealing gaskets filling the oil pump but it's still wrong)

I remember when my fuel pump went out right when I was at the gas station and I had JUST filled the tank up....got in my car and there was no sound of the pump cutting on, you dont nessesairly have to drop the whole rear end, just loosen the springs and pry it down, but you DO have to remove the gas tank, now that is a *****. good luck.... and pray for when you have to replace the timing chain..ahah

Funny thing is I am a mechanic I have been ASE certified from UTI for about 5 years now I just havent did that for a few years and I know how much it would cost to do it If I thought it would hurt anything I wouldn't do it to my car and the other 90% of people on Ls1tech wouldnt do it

I can tell you a shop would fire you for it (I am ASE certified and GM certified) it hurts the structural integrity of the car, plus your are throwing sparks at your gas tank (any cutting method creates sparks) not a good combination. In a body shop when work is done to the floor in that area, they remove the tank. I have seen a few cars that all that was left was the front clip after an owner did some cutting near the gas tank (and your insurance won't cover it they just tell you it voided your policy)
