ya I ask myself that alot.
The car was starting to twist up pretty good to where it was starting to buckle the roof. I was going to back half the car and straighten it all out. Figured it was going to be a long project and I picked up a rolling 81 Z28 real cheap at the time.
I put the engine and trans in the 81 to play with while the 68 was down and started stealing more parts from it. A friend of mine kept bugging me for the 68 and kept raising the price. He hit a good number and I sold it to him rolling. Still wish I had it though.
If you ever come out to cayuga with the rest of the buick boys, let me know and I`ll bring the pics.

Join the Darkside. Buy a Black Camaro.

I love the Late 70's early 80's personally.

I'd try to find a nice pre '88 (no emissions) Z-28 or Iroc .

Wasn't there a Manual TH350 transmission???

I have the TH 350 auto with B&M Slap Shifter & Convertor .

It's not as fun as Manual but Meh.

IF you decied on an Engine and your going to build one I know a guy who does really good work cheap.

TH 350 and TH 400 are automatics only.
TH is short for turbo hydromatic.
In the 2nd gen camaros, the manual trans that came with them would be a munci M20 or M21 4 speed (early 70s only)
Saganaw 4 speed (piece of to be avoided at all cost)
Borg Warner T 10 and super T 10 4 speed.

Check out ThirdGen.org or www.ccfbg.com. These are both Camaro/Firebird sites and they also have classifieds and advice on buying and modifying third generation Camaros ie Iroc's etc. I am a member of both sites and they are informative. I also own an 88 Iroc 305 TPI automatic. It is the most fun car to drive and I have modded it inexpensively.
