great...i just figured out...the DRL switch turns on the DRLs meaning the bright element of the bulb like its supposed to, and the parking lights. which means the taillights, dash lights, and both bulbs in the corner lense. so thats why theres a ding. for some reason the DRLs were working fine 5 minutes before and the switch just turned on the bright element of the bulb. now its turning the whole parking lights thing on.
