Now on a 400 block since the main journals are so big there is not a lot of "meat" and they were prone to cracking with the 4 bolt main caps. This is why people buy the 2 bolt and buy 4 bolt splayed caps (like myself). You are far from dumb, i know this from a lot of the tech you've posted you are just miss informed on this one.

I asked them (there are about 10 of these guys) and they all say it's the angle of the bolts not the size. It may be due to cylinder pressures from power adders they say that (I have run 2 bolt mains at 500hp with no problems) it may also be they are refering to the newer blocks (which are all weaker than the old blocks due to the actual mackup of the iron) I don't know I just know I trust what these guys are saying due to their proven skills

Wink 2 or 4

Didn't mean to get this 2 bolt 4 bolt thing started. Thats
why I said I'd pass on it.

As for the 400sb, have quite a bit of experience in the (past)
with these blocks. I ran the 2 and 4 bolt and were destroked for my dirt short track cars. We payed special
attention to the web areas. Both were studded with good
machine work done. (Never) lost a bottom end on either.
These motors spun 74 to 7800 as 372&378 c.i. which back
then was pretty tite.

My problem with them was between the cylinder deck
every 6th or 7th race would blow out the top of the wall.
We were running stainless o-rings and copper head gaskets. Nickel alloy rod weld and good for another couple
months.
Just pointing out if done rite will take alot more abuse
than alot of people think.
I run a Trk Hyd roller 4 bolt in my Iroc putting out over
500hp and would not be afraid to have put in a 2 bolt if
set up correctly.

Later

Irocing

Ok, a 2 bolt set up correctly is effective, doesn't change hte fact that a 4 bolt will be stronger none the less (350 mains)

nice observation.

I couldnt personally tell a difference between a white 3rd gen picture, and an animated yellow chicken gif.

I was kinda suprised at the asking price for the car, cuz Adric always said he didn't wanna buy a pricey 3rd gen

That car is sick, but if it's not what you REALLY want, then hold off and get what you want. I was helping my buddy Cam look for either a '91/'92 L98 Z28 or a '91/'92 G92 305/5spd, and I came up with like 10 cars on autotrader. Most of the rest were RS's.....

I just looked at an '89 today for $3400 with absolutely no rust, and exceptionally clean, and was at a dealer
