More MPG+HP? possible.?

Hey guys im 16 and about to go buy my first 2000 v6 camaro on sunday. I was wondering what i should do to it first to get a little more hp..but i want to maintain gas mileage. Are there any upgrades i can do that give me more hp and better gas milage or even the same? The car already has dual exhaust and i have about 600$ thanx alot.

P.S. i live in california so please try to accomadate smog laws

computer tune helps some. Really I don't know what to do and remain emissions legal. Hopefully one of our Cali crew will have a few ideas

air filter exhuast and tuning will increase power and give a little gas milage HOWEVER it only works if you keep your foot out of it

General rule of thumb with most any cars.

More horsepower = less gas mileage.

But, somewhat contradictory to that, more air in, more air out = more hp. Good CAI, good exhaust setup, Ram air, etc.

but air filter and exhuast also increase the VE so around town and on the highway it is easier for the motor push the car........ so it runs more efficaent...........

but those are about the only mod you get both after that MPG is fubar

And somewhat contradictory to that, owning a v6 = less horsepower, greater mpg

I believe the car has dual exhaust already. Anyone know any good intakes? How about superchargers? I also want to lower the car. Any good springs?

Thanks alot

Phate 11-04-2006 12:25 PM

Supercharger kit for your car will run around 5,000 dollars. Thats for the average powerdyne kit.

As per intake, it doesnt really much matter. Get on ebay, type in your year, engine, and 'cai' and look for one. If you really want to spend money, just grab one from SLP.

Lowering springs, I wouldnt go anything but Eibach Pro-Kit.

I think he was saying that's the only ones he'd go with.

But yes an intake and exhaust will give you more hp and better MPG.

Z28's will do just fine plus you'll save money not buying all the apperance parts.

FrYd-RyS 11-04-2006 12:47 PM

ya..my bad read it wrong. man you guys respond fast. How do i get the car tuned?

archemedes 11-04-2006 12:50 PM

if you do good tuning with mods it won't hurt mileage as bad (hence there are guys out there with some strong v-8's getting 20 mpg) get a cold air induction kit that has the filter isolated from the engine heat. I'm not a fan of lowering f bodies myself.
