Speedo Recalibration

Hey, I'm putting in a 3:42 rear end next week, what can I get to recalibrate the speedo? I can't afford HP tuners. Is there a computer box or something I can get for that? I have 3:08's now. 99 Firebird V6 A4. Thanks

I was about to say that the Hypertech Power Programmer should work... unfortunately, I just looked into it, and the HPP3 only works on 2000-2002 V6 F-Bodies. And it would be more cost effective to buy HPTuners at the price point they want for it.

For all intents and purposes, and yes, I know you said you can't afford HPTuners, but I would really recommend saving up for it. It is DEFINITELY worth it. Take it from someone who uses the software, it really is an excellent tuning package.

And with that blower on there, it'll definitely help you get more ponies from your 'Bird.

IIRC, SLP used to have a "Speedometer Calibration" module that was plug and play for our cars. I'll take a look and see if I can find the part number for you today.

*EDIT* I just remembered one other way. If you have a VIN number from a same model year Camaro/Firebird that came equipped with the same transmission as you, with the Y87 package, you can take the VIN to your local GM service center and have them reprogram the car's PCM with the proper parameters for the 3.42 gears.

Wow that is a good idea. I don't know anyone though. Knowing my car a different VIN would give her a psyco personality and she's hard enough to deal with now 24/7 PMS...

24/7 PMS, eh? Sounds like my ex.

I'd ultimately recommend you save for HPTuners. But let me know what method you ended up going with.

yep you'll want hp tuners anyway to get it all running nice (if you have someone whose tuning for the blower it's the same software)

Yah, I tried them, but he does not have the V6 software, I really wished he did, I wanted him to tune it. Most dyno shops don't either. I was told that it would be hard pressed to find someone in Florida that does the 3800. I imagine it would be alot different tune then the L67. I could be wrong, but then again, my 3800 is not stock anymore with the sc, headers and rear end.

VIN has to be same year, same drivetrain configuration.

So it'll have to be a 1999 F-Car with a 3.8L, A4 and 3.42s. Whether it's a Bowtie or a Poncho doesn't matter.
